結論｜ask for・ask about・ask人toの3種類
- ask for＋名詞：ask for help／more time／a copy（助け・時間・資料を求める）。
- ask＋人＋for＋名詞：ask the teacher for help（教師に助けを求める）。
- ask about＋話題：ask about the test（テストについて尋ねる）。
- ask＋人＋about＋話題：ask the teacher about the exam（教師に試験について尋ねる）。
- ask＋人＋to＋原形：ask a friend to help（友人に手伝ってもらうよう頼む）。
- ask to＋原形：ask to leave early（自分が早退する許可・機会を願い出る）。
- ask＋人＋a question：質問する場合に必ずしもfor／aboutが必要なわけではない。
必ず区別する点：We asked for a room.は部屋を頼んだこと、We were given a room.は部屋を提供された結果です。依頼しただけでは承認・回答・実施の事実は証明されません。資料を読む際はこの違いを確認してください。
失点の原因を4種類で確認する
- 物を頼むのにforを忘れる：ask a copy → ask for a copy。
- 人と話題の順序を逆にする：ask about me the event → ask me about the event。
- 相手に行動を頼むときのtoを落とす：ask him open → ask him to open。
- 間接疑問文を倒置する：ask what time does it start → ask what time it starts。

初見Readの全文和訳
ウィロー中学校の科学部は訪問生徒向けの実演を計画しました。月曜日、ソラは司書に部屋の規則について質問しました。司書は午後3時30分以降に利用できると説明しました。ソラは規則を書面でもらえるよう依頼しましたが、司書は水曜日に送ると答えました。次にソラは部員2人に机を確認するよう頼みました。二人は同意し、火曜日に確認を終えました。別の部員は体調不良で火曜に早退したいと申し出て、先生が許可しました。水曜に司書は約束の文書を送付しました。部は学校事務室に椅子3脚を追加で頼みましたが、水曜夜までに返事はありませんでした。最終的に生徒12人が実演に登録しましたが、部は12人全員が出席するとは決めつけませんでした。
7日間で書けるようにする復習法
- 1日目にask for8問、2日目にask about8問、3日目にask人to8問、4日目に混合8問、5日目に初見Read8問を解く。
- 6日目に同じ状況をfor・about・toで言い換えた英文を3つ作り、求めていることが変わるか確認。
- 7日目に最初の誤答だけを白紙で再テスト。正しい別解は英語として意味・文法が成立するかで判断する。
よくある質問
ask forとask aboutはどちらも質問ですか？
どちらも尋ねるという広い意味ですが、ask forは物・助けなどの提供を求め、ask aboutは話題の説明や情報を求める用法が中心です。
ask someone helpは正しいですか？
相手に助ける行動を求める場合はask someone to helpが自然です。助けそのものを求めるならask someone for helpも使えます。
ask to leaveとask someone to leaveの違いは？
ask to leaveは自分が退出する機会・許可を求め、ask someone to leaveは別の人に退出するよう頼む意味です。
ask a questionの後にもforは必要ですか？
必要ありません。Can I ask you a question?のようにask＋人＋a questionを使えます。
頼んだことは承諾されたと読み取れますか？
必ずしもそうではありません。依頼、回答、承諾、実行はそれぞれ別の情報なので、本文の事実に戻って確認します。
