I see your point, but … / Although … , I think …
(Claim) | I think we should … because …
(Evidence) | The passage says … / According to the data …
(Concession) | I understand your concern about …
(Proposal) | What if we tried … first?
「You are wrong.」で終えるより「I agree that cost matters. We could start with a small trial.」
In a fictional student council meeting, Mei proposes keeping the school library open until seven in the evening. She says that some students have no quiet place to study at home. She also notes that a later closing time may help students who stay after school for club activities. Ken disagrees with the plan as it stands. He worries that staff members may have to work longer hours and that extra lighting will cost money. Mei replies, ‘You are right that we should not increase everyone’s workload without a plan. What if we open the library late only on two days and use a reservation system?’ Ken says that a two-day trial could help the school measure how many students actually use the extra hours. Both students agree that their idea should be tested before a permanent decision is made. None of the costs or visitor numbers has been measured yet.
- 問1:What change does Mei first propose?
- 問2:Give one reason Mei supports the change.
- 問3:Name two concerns Ken raises.
- 問4:Does Ken reject studying after school itself?
- 問5:What compromise does Mei suggest?
- 問6:Why does Ken suggest a trial?
- 問7:Write one respectful English sentence recognizing Ken’s concern and offering a proposal.
- 問8:In two English sentences, distinguish facts the students know from information they still need.
A fictional town festival is deciding how to serve drinks. Aya wants visitors to bring reusable cups. She argues that this could reduce the number of disposable cups used at the event. Riku is concerned about visitors who forget their cups and people who cannot carry extra items. He also asks how reusable cups would be cleaned safely. Aya accepts that the festival needs another option. She suggests allowing people to borrow cleaned cups for a small refundable deposit. Riku agrees that the idea might work, but he wants organizers to compare the cost of cleaning and transporting cups with other options. The students make a list of questions instead of announcing that one choice is always environmentally best. They decide to ask visitors what they need and collect information about waste after the festival.
- 問9:What does Aya want visitors to bring?
- 問10:Which environmental benefit does Aya expect?
- 問11:Give two practical concerns Riku mentions.
- 問12:What second option does Aya propose?
- 問13:Does the passage prove reusable cups are always best?
- 問14:What information do they plan to collect?
- 問15:Write one sentence that concedes a difficulty but supports a trial.
- 問16:Write a short question the organizers should ask visitors before choosing a system.
A fictional class is discussing a new homework policy. Daichi likes digital assignments because students can check the meaning of unfamiliar words and submit work from home. Emi prefers some paper tasks. She finds it easier to notice spelling mistakes when she writes sentences by hand, and she worries about students who share devices with family members. Daichi says, ‘I hadn’t thought about students who cannot use a device every evening.’ He proposes giving students a choice of paper or digital submission when the learning goal is the same. Emi supports that idea but asks the teacher to compare learning results, not just how quickly the homework is handed in. The class agrees to test both formats for two weeks, using the same questions and checking whether students can answer again without notes. The teacher has not yet decided the final policy.
- 問17:What is Daichi’s first reason for supporting digital homework?
- 問18:Why does Emi prefer paper for some tasks?
- 問19:What fairness concern does Emi raise?
- 問20:What compromise does Daichi suggest?
- 問21:What should the teacher compare besides submission speed?
- 問22:Is the final homework policy already decided?
- 問23:Explain in one English sentence why faster submission does not necessarily prove better learning.
- 問24:Write one respectful question about student access to devices.
In a fictional town, students are comparing two ways to reach a new community center. Route A is a fifteen-minute bicycle ride from the station. Route B takes twenty-five minutes by bus, including waiting time. Sora argues that bicycles are faster for many students. Yuna replies that not everyone can ride a bicycle and that some visitors carry heavy bags. She also notes that the times are estimates, not guaranteed travel times. Sora suggests adding secure bicycle parking near the center, but Yuna asks whether buses can stop closer to the entrance. They agree that offering both options might help more people than choosing only one. Before making a recommendation, the students plan to check accessibility, safety, actual travel times at different hours, and the cost of each option. They have not collected these measurements yet.
- 問25:How long is Route A in the fictional example?
- 問26:How long is Route B, including waiting?
- 問27:Who raises concerns about accessibility?
- 問28:Why should they not claim the bicycle is faster for every visitor?
- 問29:What facility does Sora propose?
- 問30:Which additional information will they check? Give two.
- 問31:Write a one-sentence response recognizing Yuna’s concern while supporting bicycle parking.
- 問32:Write a two-sentence proposal that preserves both travel options.
1:Keeping the school library open until seven in the evening.〔提案はfictionalな設定〕
- 問2:Some students do not have a quiet place to study at home.〔Meiの主張〕
- 問3:Longer staff working hours and electricity costs.〔人員と費用〕
- 問4:No. He questions the plan without evidence about staffing and costs.〔立場を極端化しない〕
- 問5:Opening late on only two days with a reservation system.〔条件付きの妥協〕
- 問6:To measure how many students use the extra hours.〔本格導入前の検証〕
- 問7:I understand your concern about staff time, but could we try opening late twice a week?〔敬意+代替案〕
- 問8:They know that some students want a quiet place, but they do not know the extra costs or exact number of users.〔主張と未測定データを区別〕
I think a school should try keeping its library open later twice a week. Some students need a quiet place to study after club activities. However, I understand that staff members should not have to work longer hours without support. The school could first test a reservation system and record how many students use the space. After the trial, students and teachers could discuss the results. I support a small experiment because it may help students while limiting extra costs. A permanent schedule should be decided only after the results are checked.

10:They might reduce the use of disposable cups.〔couldで可能性を表す〕
- 問11:Visitors may forget cups; some cannot carry extra items; cleaning is another concern.〔2つ選べば可〕
- 問12:Borrowing cleaned cups with a refundable deposit.〔返金可能な預り金〕
- 問13:No. The students have not compared all costs and conditions.〔断定を避ける〕
- 問14:Visitors’ needs and waste information after the festival.〔将来の収集計画〕
- 問15:Although cleaning cups takes effort, I think a small borrowing system is worth testing.〔譲歩+意見〕
- 問16:Would you prefer to bring your own cup or borrow a cleaned one?〔選択の理解〕
I think a town festival should offer reusable cups, but it should not make them the only option. Reusing cups could reduce some disposable waste. However, not every visitor can bring a cup, and washing cups safely requires time and resources. The organizers could let visitors borrow a cleaned cup with a refundable deposit. They should also collect data about costs and waste. I would support a trial rather than a permanent rule at first. This approach respects different needs and gives the town evidence for its next decision.

17:Students can look up unfamiliar words or submit work from home.〔いずれか一つ〕
- 問18:She notices spelling mistakes more easily when writing by hand.〔自分の経験であり全員への一般化ではない〕
- 問19:Some students share devices with family members.〔利用可能性〕
- 問20:Letting students choose paper or digital work when the goal is the same.〔選択制〕
- 問21:Whether students can answer again without notes.〔理解の再現性〕
- 問22:No. The class will test both formats for two weeks first.〔未決定〕
- 問23:Submitting work quickly does not always show that a student understands the content.〔指標の違い〕
- 問24:Do all students have access to a device when they do their homework?〔配慮を質問に〕
I believe students should sometimes choose between paper and digital homework. Digital tasks can be convenient, especially when students need to submit assignments from home. However, some students share devices and cannot use them at any time. Writing by hand may also help certain students notice spelling mistakes. The teacher could use the same questions in both formats and check the answers again a few days later. I prefer a flexible system because homework should measure learning rather than just submission speed. A short trial could show which approach works for different students.

- 問25:Fifteen minutes by bicycle.〔創作データ〕
- 問26:Twenty-five minutes by bus, including waiting time.〔待ち時間込み〕
28:Not everyone can cycle and travel times are estimates.〔例外と不確実性〕
- 問29:Secure bicycle parking near the center.〔設備案〕
- 問30:Accessibility, safety, real travel times, or costs.〔2つ選べば可〕
- 問31:I agree that not everyone can cycle, but safe bicycle parking would still help some visitors.〔一部への効果に限定〕
- 問32:We should provide both bicycle parking and convenient bus access. Different visitors have different needs.〔両立案〕
I think the new community center should support both bicycles and buses. In the example, cycling takes fifteen minutes, while the bus takes twenty-five minutes including waiting time. However, these times are only estimates, and some people cannot ride bicycles. Secure bicycle parking would help some visitors, but a bus stop near the entrance would improve access for others. The town should check costs, safety and actual travel times before deciding. I would not choose a single option because visitors have different needs. Providing more than one safe choice seems reasonable.

問1〜4の内容理解とI think … because …
