Book-sharing Days
Some schools organize book-sharing days. Students bring books they have finished and exchange them with classmates. The events help readers discover stories without spending much money.
However, not everyone has a book to bring. Some students may feel excluded if they cannot exchange anything during the event.
Schools can solve this problem by collecting donated books in advance. Volunteers can also write short descriptions to help younger readers find interesting books.
What is the main activity?
What benefit do students receive?
Why might some students feel excluded?
What can schools do to solve the problem?
Summarize the entire passage in 25–35 English words.
Which minor detail could be removed from a short summary?
Small School Gardens
Some junior high schools have small gardens where students grow vegetables. Gardening can help students understand how plants grow, and the vegetables may be used in cooking activities.
However, these gardens need regular care, especially during long school holidays. Without enough water, the plants may become weak or die.
To make gardening successful, schools can prepare simple watering schedules with local volunteers. Students can also record plant growth to connect the activity with science lessons.
What is the topic of the text?
Name one benefit of school gardens.
What problem can happen during holidays?
What solution is suggested?
Summarize the entire passage in 25–35 English words.
Which scientific detail is not necessary in the short summary?
Online Language Exchanges
Some students join online language exchanges with partner schools in other countries. They can practice speaking and learn how people live in different places without traveling abroad.
However, students may find it difficult to speak because they worry about making mistakes. Differences in time zones can also make it hard to arrange meetings.
Teachers can prepare short questions before each conversation and schedule meetings carefully. Students can practice with classmates first so they feel more confident during the exchanges.
What do online exchanges help students learn?
Why are exchanges useful without travel?
Give two difficulties described in the passage.
How can teachers reduce these difficulties?
Summarize the entire passage in 25–35 English words.
Why should a summary not include your personal preference for online classes?
Cycling to School
Some families choose bicycles for short journeys to school. Riding a bike can provide regular exercise and may reduce traffic near school gates during busy mornings.
However, busy roads can be dangerous, especially when drivers cannot easily see cyclists. Rainy weather can also make riding more difficult.
Schools and local communities can support safer cycling by teaching traffic rules and checking bicycle lights. Students should choose suitable routes and use another means of transport when conditions are unsafe.
What transportation option is discussed?
Give one potential advantage.
What risk does the writer mention?
What can communities and students do?
Summarize the entire passage in 25–35 English words.
Does the author say bicycles are always the best choice? Why not?
Museum Audio Guides
Many museums offer audio guides that explain objects and artworks. Visitors can listen to descriptions at their own speed, which may make unfamiliar subjects easier to understand.
However, some guides contain long explanations or difficult words. Visitors can become tired or miss the most important information if the recordings are too detailed.
Museums can offer short versions with simple language and optional extra information. This gives visitors different ways to learn without losing the main message.
What do audio guides provide?
Why are they useful for visitors?
What difficulty can long explanations cause?
What improvement is suggested?
Summarize the entire passage in 25–35 English words.
What information can be omitted without changing the main point?
Community Science Posters
Students sometimes create science posters about problems in their communities, such as how to save water. Researching the topic helps them connect classroom lessons with everyday life.
However, a poster can become confusing if it includes too many facts or large amounts of text. Readers may not understand which information is most important.
Students can choose one clear question and support their message with a few reliable facts. Charts and short labels can help people understand the results more quickly.
What is the purpose of community science posters?
Give one benefit of researching local problems.
What problem can happen with the poster design?
How can students improve their posters?
Summarize the entire passage in 25–35 English words.
What is the difference between a fact and a personal opinion in a summary?

例1:本の交換会について「I like reading books because I can learn English.」 例2:「Books are exchanged.」
