結論｜whose・whom・which・whatの文型と役割
whose＋名詞：所有関係（the student whose father …）。前置詞＋whom：人の目的格（to whom / with whom / from whom）。which：先行詞となる物・事柄を修飾（the report, which …）。what：先行詞を内包する『〜するもの・こと』、または間接疑問（what she found / what happened）。
口語では目的格にwhoを使うこともありますが、前置詞を前に出すto whomなどはwhomが標準的です。コンマで区切った非制限関係節の中ではthatを使えません。主語・動詞と先行詞を見つけてから解答しましょう。

間違えた問題を直す4つのチェック
①whoseの後ろに所有される名詞があるか。②to / from / withの直後の関係代名詞は人を指すか。③whichが説明する先行詞は何か、コンマの有無はどうか。④whatは『〜するもの・こと』または『何が〜か』として節全体が名詞の役割を持つか。語順を日本語の感覚で判断せず、英語の主語・動詞を結んでください。
よくある質問
Q. whoseは人だけに使うのですか？
いいえ。会社や組織など、物や組織の所有・関係を示す場合にも使えます。例：a company whose website was updated。
Q. whomは会話で使いますか？
口語では目的格にwhoも使われますが、to whomなど前置詞を前に出す書き言葉ではwhomが標準です。
Q. whatとwhichはどう違いますか？
the book which I readは先行詞bookを修飾し、what I readは『読んだもの』という名詞節になります。
