the results of an experiment / survey results。
the outcome of a discussion。
an unintended consequence。
the impact of A on B。

Reading:At Green Valley School, students tested whether new classroom lights used less electricity than the old ones. They recorded the results of a four-week trial, comparing energy use in rooms of similar size. The measured reduction was eight percent, although the class noted that the rooms were not used for exactly the same number of hours. The group wanted to understand the wider environmental impact of replacing the lights throughout the school. However, the teacher explained that one short experiment could not establish every long-term consequence. The final outcome of the project was a report recommending another trial before purchasing equipment for the entire building. The students included the cost of installation and the possibility that future energy use might differ.

Reading:A city changed the closing time of a busy park from nine to eight in the evening. A nearby sports center reported more evening visitors, but the city did not claim that the park’s change was the only cause. The city planned to compare costs and visitors before deciding whether to extend the trial.

Reading:A group of high school students visited an elementary school to read stories aloud. They hoped their visits would have a positive impact on children’s interest in books. The organizers recorded the results of a short questionnaire after each session. Most children said they enjoyed the stories, but the organizers knew that enjoyment did not prove long-term improvement in reading ability. Another consequence of the program was that the high school students gained confidence when speaking in front of younger children. At the end of the term, the outcome was a recommendation to continue the visits while adding follow-up reading activities. The teachers said that measuring both enjoyment and learning over a longer period would help them understand the program better.

Reading:A regional transport company introduced a weekend bus route linking several towns. The first month’s results showed that 2,400 passengers used the service. The company examined its economic impact on nearby shops, but it did not assume that higher shop sales were caused by the buses alone. At the same time, a local festival had attracted more visitors. One unintended consequence of the route was additional traffic around a narrow station entrance. Engineers proposed changing the location of one stop. After a review, the outcome was a decision to move the stop and collect more data for another three months. The company said that passenger numbers were useful, but they did not by themselves reveal whether the entire project was financially sustainable.
Q37. What did the first month’s results show?
A. The service carried 2,400 passengers / B. Every shop doubled its sales / C. Traffic at the station disappeared / D. The route lost all customers
