an opportunity to speak。
a chance to join/a chance of rain。
the possibility of a delay。
the likelihood of an accident。

a chance to meet a researcher なら会う機会、a chance of rain なら雨が降る可能性です。

Reading:A junior high school invited students from another country to join an online exchange. The organizers wanted to give every student an opportunity to ask at least one question. Some classes had a chance to prepare their questions with a teacher, while others had little preparation time. The school therefore divided students into smaller groups. The staff also considered the possibility of technical problems and prepared a telephone connection as a backup. During a trial, several students lost their internet connection, so the likelihood of interruptions seemed higher than expected. The teachers did not cancel the exchange. Instead, they revised the schedule and planned another test. The principal said that providing an opportunity to participate was important, but actual participation had to be checked rather than assumed.

Reading:A town planned a science exhibition in a public park. The outdoor location offered children an opportunity to observe plants and insects directly. However, the organizers knew there was a possibility of heavy rain. They studied weather forecasts and discussed the likelihood of postponing the event. A local museum offered an indoor room, giving the group a chance to hold a smaller exhibition if outdoor activities became unsafe. The organizers explained that a forecast was not the same as a confirmed cancellation. Two days before the event, they checked the latest information and decided to move the exhibition indoors. They then informed families about the new location. Attendance was lower than expected, but the group did not claim that the move alone had caused the decrease.

Q29. What did the outdoor site offer children?

正解:C. It was not the same as a confirmed decision。

Q32. What did the group avoid claiming?

A. The event moved indoors / B. Families were notified / C. Attendance was lower than expected / D. The move was the only cause of lower attendance

D. The move was the only cause of lower attendance。

Reading:A library opened a volunteer program for teenagers interested in helping younger children read. The program created an opportunity to practice explaining stories and choosing suitable books. Students could apply online or on paper, so those without smartphones still had a chance to participate. At the planning stage, staff considered the possibility that too many people would apply. They prepared a waiting list but had no reliable estimate of the likelihood of that happening. In the first week, the library received forty applications for twenty places. The staff selected volunteers according to clearly published conditions. They explained that being allowed to apply was not the same as being accepted. Applicants who were not selected could join a later orientation session.

Q33. What opportunity did the program offer?

Reading:A town proposed a new bicycle lane near a railway station. Residents hoped it would give students another opportunity to travel safely. Officials predicted that the lane might reduce car traffic, but the likelihood of that result had not been measured. During a public meeting, some families raised the possibility that cyclists and pedestrians would have to share a narrow crossing. Engineers were asked to examine the design before construction. The mayor explained that a chance of improvement was not proof of improvement. After a small section opened, staff counted bicycles at different times and recorded whether people used the marked lane. They planned to compare the data across several months instead of treating one busy morning as conclusive evidence.

Q37. What opportunity did residents hope the lane would provide?

A. Another safer way for students to travel / B. A free railway ticket / C. A guaranteed reduction in all accidents / D. A new shopping center

A. Another safer way for students to travel。

Q38. What concern was raised at the meeting?

A. Fewer school books / B. A narrow crossing shared by cyclists and pedestrians / C. Higher prices for library cards / D. The disappearance of all roads

B. A narrow crossing shared by cyclists and pedestrians。

Q39. What had not been measured before construction?

A. The proposed location / B. The number of railway stations / C. The likelihood of reduced car traffic / D. The cost of a bicycle

C. The likelihood of reduced car traffic。

Q40. What evidence did staff plan to collect?

A. Only opinions from one person / B. A record from a single morning / C. Only the number of parked cars / D. Bicycle-use data across several months

Bicycle-use data across several months。
