例えば「Do you think all students should join sports clubs?」 Some students prefer other activities.

Do you think all students should join sports clubs at school?

No, I do not think all students should join sports clubs. First, some students prefer art, music, or science activities and should have time to develop those interests. Second, students who already exercise outside school may not need another sports activity. Schools should offer different kinds of clubs so that everyone can choose a suitable one.

Sports clubs are valuable, but students should have other choices.

Sports is bad, so nobody should exercise.

Sports clubs are useful, but they should not be compulsory for everyone.

Do you think all small shops should accept only digital payments?

No, I do not think all small shops should accept only digital payments. First, some customers may not have suitable phones or payment accounts. Second, technical problems can sometimes prevent digital systems from working properly. Digital payments are convenient for many people, but shops should keep at least one other payment option available for customers who need it.

Digital payments are convenient, but shops still need another option.

Digital payment never works.

Digital payments are useful, but relying on them alone can create problems.

Do you think schools should replace all printed textbooks with tablets?

No, I do not think schools should replace all printed textbooks with tablets. First, students may find it easier to review long passages in printed books without receiving digital notifications. Second, tablets can run out of power or stop working during lessons. Technology is helpful, but keeping printed materials gives schools a useful backup when problems occur.

Tablets are helpful, but printed materials should remain available.

All tablets are dangerous.

Tablets are useful for learning, but printed books provide an important alternative.

Do you think public libraries should charge people an entrance fee?

No, I do not think public libraries should charge an entrance fee. First, libraries give families a place to read and study even when they cannot afford many books. Second, people can discover information about health, jobs, and local services there. Although libraries need money to operate, charging at the entrance may discourage some residents from using them.

Libraries need funding, but entrance fees may limit access.

Libraries do not need any money.

Libraries need money, but entrance fees could reduce access to information.

Do you think students should always study alone instead of working in groups?

No, I do not think students should always study alone. First, group discussions can help learners understand ideas that were unclear when they studied by themselves. Second, working with classmates gives students practice explaining opinions and listening to others. Studying alone is useful for some tasks, but schools should provide chances for both individual and group learning.

Studying alone is useful sometimes, but group learning also matters.

Studying alone is always useless.

Individual study has benefits, but group discussions can help students learn.

Do you think schools should stop offering art classes?

No, I do not think schools should stop offering art classes. First, drawing and making things allow students to express ideas that may be difficult to explain in words. Second, art projects can teach students to plan carefully and improve their work through practice. Schools need time for academic subjects, but creative activities are also an important part of learning.

Academic subjects matter, but creative classes have educational value.

Art is the most important subject for every student.

Art classes can develop creativity and planning skills, so schools should keep them.

Do you think local festivals should be held only online?

No, I do not think local festivals should be held only online. First, meeting neighbors in person can help residents build stronger relationships within their community. Second, some activities, such as food stalls and traditional dancing, are difficult to enjoy fully through a screen. Online events may help people who cannot attend, but towns should also provide in-person opportunities.

Online access is helpful, but it cannot replace every experience.

Online events are bad for everybody.

Online participation can be useful, but festivals should still offer real gatherings.

Do you think students should choose their future jobs before entering high school?

No, I do not think students should have to choose their future jobs before high school. First, many teenagers have not had enough chances to learn about different kinds of work. Second, their interests may change as they study new subjects. Learning about careers early is useful, but students need time to explore several possibilities before making important decisions.

Career education is useful early, but a final decision can wait.

Teenagers never know anything.

Students can explore careers early without being forced to decide immediately.

Do you think schools should stop giving homework completely?

No, I do not think schools should stop giving homework completely. First, short assignments can help students review important points that they did not understand during class. Second, doing some work independently allows learners to notice which topics need more practice. However, too much homework can create stress, so schools should focus on useful tasks rather than large amounts.

Too much homework can be stressful, but carefully chosen tasks still help.

More homework is always better.

A small amount of meaningful homework can help students review without unnecessary stress.

Do you think everyone should use bicycles for every short trip?

No, I do not think everyone should use bicycles for every short trip. First, some people may have health conditions or physical difficulties that make cycling unsafe or uncomfortable. Second, carrying heavy items is sometimes easier by bus or car. Cycling has environmental benefits, but people should be able to choose transportation that suits their situation.

Cycling is useful, but not every person or trip is suitable.

Bicycles are unsafe for every person.

Bicycles are useful for many journeys, but people need other transport choices too.

No, I do not think all students should …
Some students may find it difficult to …
Second, students need time to … .
Although … is useful, schools should … .

First, it is not good. Second, it is bad.

  • all / only / always / completely / everyone
  • 理由の主語(schools / students / some people)が適切か。
  • can / may を使うべき箇所で always / will と断定していないか。
