英検準2級プラスでno longer・not yet・still・already・yetを読み違えると、サービスが終了したのか、まだ始まっていないのか、今も続いているのかを逆に解釈してしまいます。慶英会では短文16問・誤文訂正と書き換え8問・独自長文4篇16問の計40問を、解答・根拠・全文和訳付きで制作しました。

英検準2級プラスReadingの公式構成は短文空所17問・長文空所6問・内容一致8問です（英検協会の試験内容）。本ページは語法と読解を鍛えるための慶英会独自の追加演習であり、公式過去問・公式出題問題ではありません。

結論｜「過去・現在・将来」の時点を区別する

no longer：以前は成立していたが現在は成立しない（もはや〜ない）。The old card is no longer valid.（古いカードはもう有効ではない）。not yet：現時点では未完了で、将来の可能性が残る（まだ〜していない）。The card has not been approved yet.（カードはまだ承認されていない）。

still：以前から続く状態・動作が現在も続いている。They are still checking the results.（まだ結果を調べている）。already：予想より早い・ある時点までに完了したという感覚で「すでに」。They have already sent the email.（メールはすでに送信した）。yet：疑問文・否定文などで「もう／まだ」を表すことが多い。Have you finished yet?／We have not finished yet.。

注意：「not yet」は現時点で未完了、「no longer」は以前あった状態が現在失われたことを示します。ただしyetは肯定文で別の用法（the best result yetなど）もあり、alreadyは驚きを込めた疑問文にも現れます。「疑問文では絶対にyetだけ」といった暗記は避け、文脈と時制で判断してください。

復習｜どの時点で何が確定したかを線で整理する

英文を読むときに、「以前はあったが現在はない（no longer）」「今も続いている（still）」「予定に対してまだ未完了（not yet）」「すでに済んだ（already）」という4つの箱へ情報を分けます。第1長文では急行の停車終了と普通列車の継続、第2長文では作品提出済みと承認待ち、第3長文ではスキャン済みと公開未定、第4長文では回答済みと方針未決定を区別してください。

誤答した問だけをやり直す場合は、選択肢の名詞だけでなく、主語・時制・否定語・日付を確認します。答えの前後の2文を英語で音読して、同じ場所で繰り返し間違えないか検証しましょう。

よくある質問

no longerとnot yetはどう違いますか？

no longerは以前あった状態が現在はないこと、not yetは現在は未完了だということです。「昔は開いていた施設が閉館した」のか「新しい施設がまだ開いていない」のかを区別します。

alreadyとyetはどう使い分けますか？

alreadyはすでに完了したことを表す肯定文でよく使い、yetは未完了の否定文・完了したか尋ねる疑問文でよく使います。ただし驚きを表すalreadyの疑問文もあるため、形式だけで機械的に決めてはいけません。

still notとnot yetは同じ意味ですか？

どちらもまだ完了していない場面で使えますが、still notは長引いていることへの意識を強調する場合があります。The report still has not arrived. / The report has not arrived yet.の両方が可能です。
