英検準2級の短文空所補充や英作文で give me a book と give a book to me の違いに迷う場合、動詞・人・物・前置詞の関係を整理してください。 give / show / send / lend ではto、buy / make / cook / get では受益者を表すforがよく使われます。また tell me a story は自然ですが、explain me the rule は通常不自然です。慶英会では独自4択40問＋誤文訂正10題を全解答付きで無料公開しました。

まず動詞を3タイプに分ける

日本語ではすべて「〜してあげる」と訳せることがありますが、英文ではtoとforで関係が異なります。I sent a message to my sister. は届く相手、I made a card for my sister. はその人のために作ったカードです。また同じ動詞でも意味によって前置詞が変わるため、動詞と文脈をセットで確認します。

短文・Eメール読解で「誰が誰に」を把握する
例えば The librarian gave the visitor a map. なら地図を受け取るのはvisitorです。The student bought her teacher a small gift. なら買った行為者はstudentで、teacherは受益者です。準2級のEメール読解でも、人物のすり替えを防ぐため、主語・物・相手をそれぞれ別に確認します。Writingでは無理に長い英文にせず、意味が正しい短い英文を組み合わせることを優先してください。

多くの文脈で同じ授受の意味を表します。強調や文脈によって使われ方が異なります。
Q. buy a book to meは使えますか？
人のために買う意味なら通常buy a book for meです。
Q. explain me the ruleは正しいですか？
通常はexplain the rule to me、またはexplain to me …などの構文を使います。
Q. 第4文型と第3文型はすべての動詞で自由に変換できますか？
いいえ。動詞によって許される語順・前置詞が異なり、explainなどはSVOOを基本的に取りません。
