結論｜受信文のIは相手、返信文のIは自分。主語の立場を確認する
英検準2級のEメール返信では、受信メールのI・we・my・ourが誰を指すかを確認し、返信では自分と相手の視点を区別する必要があります。相手がMy class built a garden. Do you think your school should make one?と尋ねた場合、受信文のyour schoolは返信する自分の学校です。返信で「I think my school should make a garden. Your garden sounds useful.」と書けば、誰の学校・庭かを誤解されずに伝えられます。
英検協会の試験内容とライティング体験版では、準2級のEメールは相手の質問に答え、下線部の特徴を知る具体的な質問を2つ書く形式です。語数の目安は40〜50語。以下は慶英会独自の架空のEメール8通・40〜50語模範返信8本・人称と疑問文の修正24題です。公式過去問の転載ではありません。
受信文と返信文の人称の違い
- 受信文のI/my：メールを書いた相手の経験・持ち物。返信者が自分の経験としてコピーしない。
- 受信文のyou/your：メールを受け取った自分を指すことが多い。自分のことを返信するならI/my。
- 受信文のwe/our：相手と相手の仲間を指す。返信者がその集団に含まれないならyou/yourなど。
- 返信文のI/my/we/our：返信を書く自分、あるいは自分の仲間・学校。
- すべて機械的に置換するのではなく、誰が何をしたかを本文から判断する。
Eメールの人称と、意見英作文の理由を混同しない：受信文のIは差出人、返信文のIは返信する生徒ですが、意見英作文は独立したQUESTIONへの立場と理由2つを書きます。英検準2級Writingの2形式・独自32課題と完成8例で、返信時の具体的な質問2つと意見英作文の理由2つを区別してください。
返信の書き方｜相手の質問への答えと、下線部への2質問
- 相手の質問に直接答える：Yes, I think my school should … / I would like to join …など。
- 必要なら短い理由：because students can learn about …
- 下線部に関して、情報が異なる具体的な質問を2つ書く：How large is it? / How often is it used?
- 既に本文に記載されている曜日・場所・内容を重ねて聞き直さない。
- 最後に40〜50語を数え、人称と疑問文の語順を確かめる。
