Part D|
A fictional secondary school introduced a voluntary weekend English workshop and wanted to know whether it helped students. The school invited everyone but conducted its first online survey among volunteers who responded to an email. Students who enjoyed the workshop were more likely to complete the questionnaire, raising the risk of self-selection bias. Another problem was that many students with unstable internet access did not reply. The team considered nonresponse bias because these students might have different experiences from those who responded. The initial report discussed only the students who finished all eight sessions. A teacher warned that excluding those who dropped out could create survivorship bias. Some participants were also asked to recall their exact study hours from several months earlier, making recall bias possible. The principal did not conclude that the workshop had failed. Instead, the school revised its research plan and sought more complete attendance and writing data.
問29.Why was self-selection bias possible?
問30.Which group often failed to return the form?
問31.Why was nonresponse bias a concern?
問32.Who was left out of the initial outcome report?
問33.What information was vulnerable to recall bias?
問34.Did the school conclude that the workshop was ineffective?
A fictional town reviewed the durability of old pedestrian bridges. One engineer proposed studying only bridges that were still in use after fifty years. A colleague warned that the surviving bridges might differ from bridges that had failed or been demolished, creating survivorship bias. To broaden the study, the town gathered older maintenance records for removed structures as well. The team then asked former inspectors to recall problems from decades earlier. Some memories were incomplete, so researchers considered recall bias and checked the original files whenever possible. Meanwhile, one electronic gauge consistently reported stress levels above an independent reference. Engineers found that its calibration was incorrect, creating systematic measurement bias. The researchers corrected the equipment before comparing readings. A public questionnaire about bridge safety also attracted self-selected residents who were especially worried about transport. Officials explained that these different biases required different remedies and that correcting one source of error did not guarantee the entire study was unbiased.
問35.What could create survivorship bias?
問36.What additional records were collected?
問37.Why did the team check old inspection files?
問38.What caused measurement bias?
問39.Why was self-selection bias possible in the public questionnaire?
問40.Did fixing the gauge remove every possible bias?

Part D|2
Students who liked the workshop were more likely to respond.。
問30 解答:Students with unstable internet access.。
Nonrespondents might have different experiences.。
Students who dropped out before completing all sessions.。
問33 解答:Study hours from several months earlier.。
No. It planned better data collection.。
Studying only bridges still in use after fifty years.。
Maintenance records for bridges that had been removed.。
Former inspectors’ memories could be incomplete.。
A gauge with incorrect calibration.。
問39 解答:Highly concerned residents chose to respond.。
No. Other biases required different remedies.。
