English passage:A school district offered students an optional online study application during a ten-week term. The application included short exercises and reminders, and its developers hoped it would help students review regularly. At the end of the term, students who had chosen to use the app received higher average quiz scores than those who had not. Some teachers took this as evidence that the application improved achievement. However, students had not been randomly assigned to the two groups. The app users had volunteered, and interviews suggested that many were already interested in studying outside class. They might therefore have performed better even without the application. The district had also collected little information about how much time each student spent using the exercises. Researchers suggested a follow-up study in which students with similar starting scores would be compared and usage would be recorded. They emphasized that the original result was encouraging but did not, by itself, prove that the application caused the higher scores. The district has not decided whether the application should become compulsory.
問1.What did the initial comparison show?
- A. App users had higher average quiz scores.
- B. Every student improved equally.
- C. The app reduced teachers’ working hours.
- D. Only app users took the quizzes.
問2.Why might the comparison have been biased?
- A. The quiz questions were written in another language.

- B. Students’ favorite sports.
- C. How long individual students used the application.
- D. The location of the school buildings.
問4.What would researchers like to do next?
- A. Compare only students who never study.
- B. Make every student use the app immediately.
- C. Remove all quiz questions from the study.
- D. Compare similar starting groups and record use.
問5.What is the safest conclusion?
- A. The association is promising but does not prove causation.
- B. The app certainly raised every score.
- C. The program was a complete failure.
- D. All students had already used it.
問6.What does ‘volunteered’ imply in this passage?
- A. The app was randomly allocated.
- B. Students decided to participate themselves.
- C. Every student received payment.
- D. The study excluded interested students.
問7.Has compulsory use been approved?
- A. Yes, for all schools.
- B. Yes, but only for teachers.
- C. No, the district has not decided.
- D. No, because the technology is illegal.
English passage:A city added a protected bicycle lane along a busy road and reviewed reports of near misses at nearby intersections. In the year before the lane opened, residents reported 40 near misses, while an estimated 2,000 cyclists used the road regularly. In the following year, reports rose to 60, but the estimated number of regular cyclists also increased to 4,000. A newspaper headline stated that the new lane had made the road more dangerous because the total number of reports was higher. Traffic researchers warned against drawing that conclusion from the totals alone. The number of reports per estimated cyclist had actually fallen, although those figures were not precise accident rates. In addition, a public campaign encouraged more people to report incidents, potentially changing how many events were recorded. No reliable comparison with a similar road was available. The city decided to collect observations at fixed times and examine both actual collisions and near-miss reports over a longer period. It would also investigate how changing traffic volumes influenced the results. Officials neither declared the lane a success nor proposed removing it immediately.
問8.What happened to the total number of near-miss reports?
- A. It fell from 60 to 40.
- B. It stayed the same.
- C. It increased from 40 to 60.
- D. It rose from 2,000 to 4,000.
問9.How did the estimated number of regular cyclists change?
- A. It decreased by half.
- B. It rose by only 20.
- C. It remained 2,000.
- D. It increased from 2,000 to 4,000.
問10.Why was the newspaper headline too strong?
- A. A larger report total alone could not show greater danger.
- B. All researchers agreed that the lane was perfectly safe.
- C. There had been no change in cyclist numbers.
- D. The city had already removed the lane.
問11.What could have affected the number of recorded incidents?
- A. A new school examination.
- B. A campaign encouraging reports.
- C. A change in the length of the year.
- D. A reduction in the number of newspapers.
問12.Why should the per-cyclist figures be treated cautiously?
- A. They measure every collision with certainty.
- B. They prove that all intersections improved.
- C. They rely on estimates and reports rather than precise accident rates.
- D. They include data from a randomized trial.
問13.What additional evidence does the city plan to collect?
- A. Only newspaper headlines.
- B. Only comments from shop owners.
- C. Only measurements from one morning.
- D. Fixed-time observations and longer-term collision data.
問14.Which statement best describes the city’s decision?
- A. It will continue investigating rather than make an immediate final judgment.
- B. It has proved the lane caused all incidents.
- C. It has decided to remove the lane tomorrow.
- D. It will stop collecting traffic observations.
English passage:A nature center asked residents to photograph insects in local parks and upload the images to an online database. A computer program classified the photographs into species groups. The project attracted many volunteers and produced far more records than the center’s previous surveys. Initially, the team noticed that one type of butterfly appeared in a particularly large number of images. Some volunteers suggested that this species had become more common throughout the city. The scientists cautioned that the number of uploaded photographs was not a direct measure of the total population. The butterfly was brightly colored and easy to photograph, while several smaller insects were difficult to identify. Some volunteers also submitted several photographs of the same individual. Furthermore, the automatic program sometimes confused visually similar species. The team introduced rules for removing duplicate observations and arranged for experts to review uncertain classifications. It also planned surveys in less frequently visited parks. By combining volunteer photographs with standardized counts, scientists hoped to distinguish changes in observation habits from genuine changes in biodiversity.
問15.What was one immediate result of the project?
- A. Fewer volunteers attended than before.
- B. The number of collected records increased greatly.
- C. Every insect in the city was identified.
- D. The butterfly population doubled.
問16.Why was the colorful butterfly photographed frequently?
- A. It lived only inside museums.
- B. The government paid for each image.
- C. It was easy to notice and photograph.
- D. It was the only insect able to fly.
問17.What problem could duplicate photographs create?
- A. A smaller number of records.
- B. A guarantee of perfect identification.
- C. More parks being sampled.
- D. More images without a corresponding increase in distinct insects.
問18.What weakness did the automatic classifier have?
- A. It sometimes confused similar species.
- B. It recorded images only on paper.
- C. It prevented experts from reviewing records.
- D. It always correctly identified every image.
問19.Which method was introduced to improve reliability?
- A. Removing all volunteer photographs.
- B. Checking uncertain classifications and duplicate reports.
- C. Counting only the most colorful butterflies.
- D. Ending surveys in less visited parks.
問20.What are researchers trying to distinguish?
- A. Rainfall and temperature in laboratories.
- B. Urban buildings and private property.
- C. Changes in observation behavior and actual biodiversity.
- D. Computer prices and internet speed.
問21.Which conclusion is best supported?
- A. The butterfly has certainly spread across the entire city.
- B. Automatic photographs cannot be useful in any research.
- C. All volunteer data must be deleted.
- D. Citizen observations can be valuable when checked against standardized methods.

問14:A 正解。 A:正解。
問18:A 正解。 A:正解。
