  • 言い過ぎ:may / some / suggests を must / all / proves に強める。
  • 予定の確定:consider / plan / may を decided / will certainly に変える。

Original passage A town library tested longer opening hours for eight weeks. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, it stayed open until nine instead of closing at six. The library had previously welcomed about 50 visitors on an average weekday evening. During the trial, the corresponding figure rose to around 80. However, the staff did not track whether the extra visitors were students, working adults, or people who would otherwise have visited at another time. A questionnaire also found that many respondents appreciated the later closing time, although the survey was completed only by visitors who entered the building. Some parents requested more weekend opening hours instead. The council therefore agreed to continue the trial for another month while collecting data from people who rarely used the library. It has not yet decided whether the change should become permanent, nor has it examined any connection between library attendance and examination results.

問1. What was observed during the initial trial?

  • A. Students’ examination scores rose sharply.
  • B. Average attendance at the relevant evening hours increased.
  • C. Weekend visitors doubled.
  • D. The library recruited additional teachers.

問2. Why should the questionnaire results be interpreted cautiously?

  • A. Only library visitors could complete it.
  • B. It was conducted in several towns.
  • C. It recorded test scores instead of opinions.
  • D. Every resident was required to reply.

問3. Which statement goes beyond the evidence in the passage?

  • A. Some parents wanted longer weekend hours.
  • B. The council will collect information from infrequent users.
  • C. Late opening has improved students’ examination performance.
  • D. The original trial lasted eight weeks.

問4. What did the council decide?

  • A. To permanently extend opening hours.
  • B. To stop the trial immediately.
  • C. To replace evening hours with weekend hours.
  • D. To extend the trial while gathering more evidence.

問5. Which interpretation is best supported?

  • A. The increase proves that more students are studying.
  • B. Everyone in town prefers evening hours.
  • C. The trial suggests increased use, but its broader effects remain uncertain.
  • D. Late opening reduced the library’s operating costs.

問2:A 正解。

another month while collecting data

Original passage A community organization held a monthly repair event to help residents fix household items rather than discard them. Over three months, volunteers inspected 120 broken objects. They repaired 72 of them, while 24 could not be repaired because replacement parts were unavailable. For the remaining 24, the owners chose not to continue after learning the likely cost or time required. Organizers were pleased that more than half the objects were repaired, but they did not calculate how much waste the events prevented. Some repaired items might have been kept at home without the program, and some could break again soon. The group is now asking participants whether the repaired objects are still in use six months later. It also plans to publish clear estimates of material and labor costs. The project may help residents learn practical skills, yet its environmental impact requires longer-term evidence.

問6. How many objects were successfully repaired?

  • A. 24
  • B. 48
  • C. 72
  • D. 120

問7. Why did some owners decide not to continue?

  • A. They were told the likely cost or time.
  • B. They had already sold the objects.
  • C. All replacement parts were immediately available.
  • D. The organization banned household repairs.

問8. What has the organization NOT yet established?

  • A. The number of items inspected.
  • B. The number of items repaired.
  • C. Whether volunteers participated.
  • D. The amount of waste actually avoided.

問9. What is the purpose of the six-month follow-up?

  • A. To check whether repaired items remain in use.
  • B. To prove the program caused lower electricity bills.
  • C. To determine how many residents own cars.
  • D. To recruit professional examiners.

問10. Which conclusion is most accurate?

  • A. Exactly 60 percent of the town’s waste was eliminated.
  • B. The repair rate exceeded half, but lasting environmental benefits have not been quantified.
  • C. Every item not repaired lacked spare parts.
  • D. The events were financially profitable.

問7:A 正解。

did not calculate how much waste … prevented と明示。 /C=volunteers inspected と記載。/D=正解。

問9:A 正解。repaired objects are still in use six months later

Original passage Two schools compared temperatures in their courtyards during a summer pilot study. One courtyard contained mature trees, whereas the other had little shade. On the measurement days, the shaded courtyard was about two degrees Celsius cooler at midday. The researchers emphasized, however, that the schools also differed in building layout, wind exposure, and the material covering the ground. Because the sites were not randomly selected and only a few days were measured, the temperature difference cannot be attributed entirely to trees. The schools plan to gather readings across more days and include courtyards with similar building designs. They will also record maintenance costs and the amount of space available for outdoor activities. One teacher welcomed the possibility of adding shade but warned that planting trees could not replace providing drinking water and access to indoor cooling during extreme heat.

問11. What did the initial measurements show?

  • A. The shaded courtyard was cooler at midday.
  • B. Tree planting reduced costs by two percent.
  • C. Both courtyards had identical wind conditions.
  • D. The warmer courtyard had more mature trees.

問12. Why did researchers avoid a firm causal claim?

  • A. They had forgotten to measure temperature.
  • B. Other differences between sites could influence the result.
  • C. No teachers were available to observe the trial.
  • D. Every site was selected at random.

問13. What will the schools add to the next stage?

  • A. A comparison of exam results only.
  • B. A requirement to remove all trees.
  • C. Longer observation and more comparable courtyards.
  • D. A permanent ban on outdoor activities.

問14. Which statement reflects the teacher’s view?

  • A. Shade alone guarantees safety in extreme heat.
  • B. All courtyards must be planted immediately.
  • C. Indoor cooling is unnecessary once trees are planted.
  • D. Shade may help, but water and indoor cooling also matter.

問15. What does the passage most clearly illustrate?

  • A. An observed difference does not by itself prove its sole cause.
  • B. A smaller number of sites always produces more reliable data.
  • C. Trees cannot affect outdoor temperatures.
  • D. Cooling equipment should never be used at schools.

問11:A 正解。about two degrees Celsius cooler at midday

more days and similar building designs

warned that … could not replace

問15:A 正解。

Original passage A regional college introduced remote internships for students who lived far from major employers. Of 240 applicants, 80 enrolled in the pilot program. By the end, 55 had completed their placements, while 25 had withdrawn. Interviews with the students who withdrew suggested that ten struggled with unreliable internet connections and fifteen found it difficult to fit the work around other commitments. The college reported that participating employers valued clear written updates from interns, but it did not compare the graduates’ future earnings with those of students on traditional placements. Nor did it survey applicants who were not offered a place. The college is considering a short orientation course on scheduling and online communication. Before expanding the program, it also wants to investigate whether students in areas with poor internet access face extra barriers at the application stage.

問16. How many enrolled students completed the pilot?

  • A. 25
  • B. 55
  • C. 80
  • D. 240

  • B. Some students struggled with scheduling.
  • C. Remote interns eventually earn more than traditional interns.
  • D. Not all applicants joined the program.

問19. Why does the college want to study the application stage?

  • A. To make internships exclusively available to city residents.
  • B. To check whether weak connectivity creates additional barriers before enrollment.
  • C. To replace written updates with telephone calls.
  • D. To prove that no students were rejected.

問20. What is the best summary of the program so far?

  • A. It has already established higher salaries for all interns.
  • B. It was canceled because every participant withdrew.
  • C. Its only purpose was to reduce university tuition.
  • D. It showed some positive feedback but left access and long-term outcomes unresolved.
