not more than 1010以下、上限
not less than 1010以上、下限
at most 10最大10、10以下

no more thanとnot more thanは数学的な境界が重なる場合もあります。

A rural town introduced a small reservation-based bus. Each journey could accommodate at most twelve passengers. The operator needed at least four advance bookings to run a particular evening service. During the first week, one trip attracted no more than three customers, so it did not meet the minimum requirement. On another day, no less than eleven residents requested the same journey, surprising the organizer. An official claimed that the high demand on that day proved every future service would be full. The transport team rejected that conclusion. Maximum capacity was a rule, not an estimate of average ridership, and one popular trip could not establish a long-term pattern. The council planned to examine bookings, completed trips, and whether passengers could make return journeys reliably. It also considered alternatives for residents who did not use online booking.

Q33. What was the maximum number allowed on one journey?

  1. Four
  2. Eleven
  3. Twelve
  4. Three

Q34. Why did one evening trip not run?

  1. Only three people booked, below the minimum of four
  2. It had thirteen passengers
  3. It used a route outside town
  4. It was permanently banned

Q35. What does ‘no less than eleven’ emphasize?

  1. Only three passengers arrived
  2. Exactly four seats were available
  3. Every bus had eleven passengers
  4. Eleven was a surprisingly large number of requests

Q36. What did the council still need to assess?

  1. Only the appearance of buses
  2. Long-term bookings, completed journeys and reliable returns
  3. Only the number of advertisements
  4. Whether all residents had identical schedules

A school planned a new evening reading program. The room could hold no more than twenty-five people under its safety rules, and each session needed at least two trained supervisors. The first trial attracted only nine students, which disappointed the organizers. During the second trial, as many as twenty-four students arrived, and staff were pleased. The principal announced that the room would be full for every future event. The evaluation team noted that the capacity was a maximum, not a guarantee of attendance. It also explained that the number of students present was not proof of improved reading skills. Some participants used the room only once, and others lacked suitable transport home. The school therefore planned to record repeated attendance, student feedback, and safe return arrangements before extending the service.

Q37. How many people could the room hold at most?

  1. Twenty-five
  2. Twenty-four
  3. Nine
  4. Two

Q38. What was the minimum number of trained supervisors?

  1. Nine
  2. Twenty-four
  3. Twenty-five
  4. Two

Q39. What did the second trial directly show?

  1. Every future session would be full
  2. Twenty-four students attended that one session
  3. All reading scores had improved
  4. The school had no transport problems

Q40. Why did researchers call for further assessment?

  1. The school had closed the library
  2. No students had joined
  3. Attendance did not prove lasting learning or reliable access
  4. The safety rule had no effect

Q33 正答 C:at most twelveは12人まで。

Q35 正答 D:no less thanは意外な多さの表現。

Q37 正答 A:no more than 25は最大25人。

D:at least two supervisors。

The center can accommodate at most fifty people. No less than forty people attended the trial.

FAQ

no more thanとnot more thanは同じですか?

no less than 100はどう訳しますか?
