Purpose=何を改善する計画か。Measurement=何を実際に測ったか。Limitation=測れなかったことや別要因。Next decision=次にどう判断するか。only / may / had not / before expanding などの限定表現が聞こえたら、実証済みの結果と未確定の成果を区別します。
A community farm installed soil-moisture sensors in three small planting areas. The purpose was to help volunteers decide when to water plants rather than follow the same fixed schedule every day. During a four-week trial, staff recorded sensor readings and the amount of water delivered to each area. In two areas, volunteers watered less frequently than before, but the third received a similar amount of water. The coordinator explained that soil type, shade, and the plants being grown differed among the areas. She warned that using less water did not automatically mean the plants had grown better or that the project saved money overall. Equipment and maintenance also had costs. The team plans to compare plant growth, rainfall, and operating expenses over a longer period before deciding whether to add sensors to other plots. The current records show changes in watering, not a proven increase in crop yields.

A local seed-sharing project offered packets of vegetable seeds to residents who wanted to try small gardens. Members could take a packet and later contribute seeds collected from their own plants, although a contribution was not required when the first packet was borrowed. Organizers kept records of how many packets left the center, but that number did not show how many seeds germinated or how many vegetables people eventually harvested. During a small test, volunteers planted samples from several batches and observed different germination rates. A coordinator noted that storage conditions and the age of the seeds might explain some differences, but no single cause had been established. Rather than promising that every packet would grow successfully, the project began adding information about the collection date and recommended storage conditions. It plans to repeat its tests before making claims about the reliability of the seeds available to members.

A community kitchen began using temperature monitors in its food-storage rooms to make its record keeping more consistent. Staff checked the instruments regularly and recorded the duration of any unusual reading. During the first month, they noticed several changes in temperature when doors remained open for longer than usual. After staff adjusted the way supplies were moved, the number of these readings declined. A local article called this proof that food waste had been reduced. The kitchen manager disagreed: the instruments measured storage conditions, not the amount of food discarded. The kitchen had not collected comparable waste records from before the change, nor had it calculated the cost of monitoring equipment. Managers planned to record discarded food by category, check storage conditions, and compare equipment expenses before judging whether the system was worthwhile. They treated the temperature data as useful for managing storage, not as a complete measure of waste reduction.

A secondary school considered creating a vegetable garden on an unused part of its roof. Students hoped that the project would make science lessons more practical and provide produce for a small classroom activity. Before allowing any planting, the building manager requested an assessment of structural load, access routes, and waterproofing. One group of students interpreted this as approval to begin planting on the roof. However, the principal explained that the assessment had been authorized, not the garden itself. While the school waited for the results, the teacher approved a limited experiment using containers in a covered ground-floor courtyard. Students recorded watering times and plant growth there. This smaller trial could help them practice scientific observation, but it did not establish that the roof was safe or that rooftop plants would perform identically. The full rooftop garden remained a proposal.

A community group planted a variety of flowering plants along a small urban walking route. Members hoped that offering flowers at different times would create more opportunities for insects that visit them. Volunteers counted insects seen on selected afternoons before and after the planting. They recorded more visits during the later sessions, and several members described the project as a clear ecological success. An adviser urged caution. The weather had been warmer during the later observations, and volunteers had not examined similar periods in previous years. They also had not established whether the insects were the same species or whether the change affected the plants’ reproduction. The group therefore planned repeated observations with consistent time periods and weather records. The adviser said that the initial figures could support further investigation, but not a conclusion that the project had improved an entire local ecosystem.

Several neighborhood food shops arranged to send suitable unsold items to a community kitchen instead of automatically discarding them. During a four-week pilot, staff recorded the weight of items collected from each shop. Organizers initially reported that the collected weight represented food already delivered to residents. The kitchen manager corrected that statement. Some items needed inspection, and a portion could not be used before its permitted handling period ended under the program’s procedures. The team also spent time sorting, storing, and transporting the food. The manager explained that collecting items was an important first step but did not equal the quantity of meals prepared or the number of different residents served. The group decided to measure usable food, completed meal portions, transport costs, and requests from people unable to reach the kitchen before expanding the arrangement.
