| donate | 金銭・物資を寄付する | donate books to a charity | 物品も目的語になる |

A regional government wanted to make public transport more affordable. It decided to subsidize bus fares for residents who met the income requirements, meaning passengers would pay less than the normal price while the government covered part of the cost. The city’s transport office separately used tax revenue to fund routine maintenance of bus stops. To replace aging vehicles, a private operator obtained a commercial loan from a bank, which financed the purchase of six new buses. A sportswear company sponsored a community cycling event in return for its logo appearing on banners. Local volunteers also donated unused bicycle helmets to a youth charity without receiving payment. Officials explained that these five financial activities were not interchangeable: fare subsidies reduced user costs, maintenance funding supported operations, bank financing created a repayment obligation, sponsorship offered publicity, and donations transferred goods without compensation.
D1. What directly reduced ticket prices paid by eligible passengers?
D2. How was the purchase of six new buses financed?
D3. What did the company receive in exchange for sponsoring the cycling event?
D4. What goods did volunteers donate?
A nonprofit group planned to open a community learning center for secondary-school students. The local council agreed to fund basic instructor training from its education budget, but the budget did not cover construction of a new classroom. To pay for that work, the nonprofit arranged financing from a regional lender, agreeing to repay the loan over seven years. The government later introduced a subsidy for fees charged to eligible families, making participation cheaper for them. A printing company sponsored a weekend reading festival at the center and was allowed to display its logo on event materials. Meanwhile, parents donated books and stationery without expecting reimbursement. At the annual review, the manager stressed that a large amount of sponsorship did not necessarily mean the center had enough money to repay its loan. Each source of support had its own conditions, costs, and expected benefits.
D5. What did the council fund?
D6. What obligation came with the construction financing?
D7. Why did eligible families pay less?
D8. Why did the manager warn against equating sponsorship income with financial safety?

The lender financed the new building with a seven-year loan. The government subsidized the fares.
Governments should subsidize public transport for low-income residents, while local businesses could sponsor community events. Public funding should be evaluated separately from private donations.(政府は低所得住民の公共交通を補助すべきで、地域企業はコミュニティ行事を協賛できる。
