本記事は慶英会オリジナルの学習教材です。架空の発表・データを用いており、実際の学校発表や英検の公式二次試験形式を再現するものではありません。音声データは付属しません。
結論｜分からない質問は3段階で答える
①聞き取れなかった場合はCould you repeat the question? と確認する。②本文にある事実は短く正確に答える。③本文にないデータならI don’t have that information yet. と答え、推測と測定済みの結果を混同しない。英語として自然でも根拠のない数字や全員への一般化は失点の原因になります。
40課題の学習方法
4つの創作発表英文を読み、各10の質問に英語で声に出して答えてください。模範解答は一例です。英文法と内容の正確さを両方確認し、簡潔な別解も認めます。
発表1｜図書室の朝の開放
My school opened a quiet reading room at 8 a.m. instead of 9 a.m. for a two-week trial. An average of eighteen students visited it each morning. Before the trial, the room was closed until nine. Students could read books and finish homework, but they could not borrow books before nine. We asked a few visitors for feedback; some said the room helped them study quietly. We did not collect exam results or compare grades. The teacher will decide next term whether to continue the early opening. I have prepared a short talk about this trial.

発表1の全文和訳
私たちの学校は静かな読書室を、9時ではなく8時に開ける2週間の試行を行いました。毎朝平均18人が利用。以前は9時まで閉まっていました。読書や宿題は可能ですが、本の貸出は9時前にはできません。何人かに意見を聞いたところ、静かに勉強できたという声もありました。試験結果や成績比較は集めていません。継続の判断は来学期に先生が行う予定で、この試行について短く発表します。

発表2｜苗の成長と光の比較
Our group observed two small groups of seedlings for ten days. Both groups started with an average height of three centimeters. The group near a window had an average height of nine centimeters on Day 10. The group in a shaded area had an average of six centimeters. We watered both groups equally. We think that light might have played a role, but we did not measure the temperatures in the two locations. We also cannot claim that every plant in the window group was exactly nine centimeters tall. Next time, we plan to record temperature and use more plants. We have not tested the project outside our classroom.

発表3｜リサイクル調査と重複回答
We asked sixty classmates about two recycling activities. Twenty-four students said they had reused paper, eighteen said they had reused plastic bottles, and six said they had done both. Students could choose both answers. This means thirty-six selected at least one activity and twenty-four selected neither. We did not ask whether their grades changed, and the survey included only our sixty classmates. We have a table of these responses, but we did not measure how much waste was actually reduced. Next month, we plan to ask students what made recycling difficult. I will explain the results in English at our class meeting.

Our English club will hold a presentation day on Friday in Hall C. We have invited thirty students, but only twenty-four have confirmed that they can attend. We have not yet received replies from the other six. The program begins at 2 p.m. and has four short talks. Each talk is planned to last five minutes, followed by a three-minute question period. The schedule is a plan, not a record of what has already happened. The club is preparing a printed program, but the final list of speakers will be approved on Thursday. A student asked if all thirty invited people would attend; we cannot know that yet. If someone asks which speaker will talk first, I should check the approved program rather than guess.

聞き返すときの短い英語
Could you repeat that, please?（もう一度お願いします。）Do you mean the average or the total?（平均のことですか、それとも合計のことですか。）I don’t have that information yet.（その情報はまだありません。）Based on our data, we can say …（私たちのデータによると…といえます。）この4表現を使い分けます。
7日間の復習
1日目は発表1で利用者数、2日目は発表2で平均と原因、3日目は発表3で重複回答、4日目は発表4で出席確定と予定を確認。5日目は根拠のない推測を直し、6日目は聞き返しを含む30秒の質疑応答を練習。7日目は初見の別の英文で質問を作って答えます。
