英検3級の長文読解で、本文に書かれた事実・登場人物の感想・これからの予定や予想を混同してしまう中学生へ。『ある人が一番好きだと思った』ことは、その人がそう感じたという事実ですが、『全員にとって一番よい』と証明されたわけではありません。また、willやhope toは予定・希望を表しても、すでに実行済みとは限りません。慶英会が独自制作した8つの短い長文で、4択32問・英問英答8問の合計40課題と全訳・全解答を無料公開します。

結論｜英検3級の長文は「誰がそう思ったか」「実際に何が起きたか」を分ける

例えば『Mika said the new book was interesting.』なら、『ミカはその本が面白いと言った』と答えるのは本文に合います。しかし『学校の全員が面白いと感じた』は根拠がありません。『The club hopes to hold a concert next month.』なら、来月の開催は希望であり、すでに開催した事実とは違います。英検3級の長文内容一致では、登場人物・日時・動作・その人の発言を結びつけて判断することが重要です。

英検協会の公式形式では、Readingの長文内容一致は掲示・案内、Eメール、説明文など合計10問の4肢選択です。本記事の「事実／感想／予想」は根拠を整理する慶英会独自の補助練習であり、英検3級にこの名前の独立大問があるわけではありません。

本文の事実・感想・予想を分けるとき｜may・mightを手掛かりに

英検3級長文で『He went there yesterday.』は過去に実際に行ったこと、『He might go there tomorrow.』は今後の可能性です。may・might・can・couldの独自40課題で助動詞の意味を確かめると、事実と予想を混同しにくくなります。

文の意味を判断する独自3問

  1. She visited the museum last week. → すでに起きた出来事。過去形
  2. She might visit the museum next week. → 今後の可能性。確定ではない
  3. She will ask her parents tomorrow. → 明日確認するという行動予定。親の許可が出たとは限らない

独自8長文40課題｜人物の発言と本文の事実を区別

各長文を読み、4択4問で本文の内容を確認してから、5問目の英問英答で自分の英文によって説明します。英問英答は学校英語・読解定着の補助練習で、英検3級Readingの公式出題形式ではありません。各解答欄には全文和訳と、4択すべての正誤理由を掲載しています。

独自長文1｜学校図書館の読書イベント（問1〜5）

Last Friday, Green Middle School held a reading event in the library. Twenty-four students joined it. The event started at four and finished at five. Afterward, Rina said, ‘I think the story about the sea was the most interesting one.’ Her friend Kota liked the story about space better. Their teacher plans to hold another event in December, but the date has not been decided. Rina hopes that more students will come next time.

登場人物が二人以上いる長文での失点を防ぐ方法

  1. まず事実（日時・人数・活動内容）と、評価する発言を別に印を付ける
  2. I think / said / believedなどが誰の発話に結びつくか、人物名を確認する
  3. hope / may / plan toの後を読んでも、既に実行したかは別に確認する
  4. 全員（everyone / all）のような強い選択肢を、本文が本当に支えているか確認する
  5. 次回の日付や成果など、まだ調べていないことを本文に追加しない

7日間の復習｜長文の正答理由を説明する

  1. 1日目：長文1・2。話し手の評価と確定した人数・日時を分ける
  2. 2日目：長文3・4。二人の異なる感想と店主の予想を読む

よくある質問

Q. I thinkと書かれていたら必ず不正解になりますか？

A. いいえ。『その人がそう思った』という設問なら正解の根拠になります。『誰にとっても事実』と読み替えないことが重要です。

Q. 人物の感想と本文の事実はどう違いますか？

A. 『イベントに24人が参加した』は本文で示す事実です。『そのイベントが最高だった』は発言した人の評価であり、全員に共通するとは限りません。

Q. willやhopeがあればすでに決まっていますか？

A. willは将来の予定・予想、hopeは希望を示します。実行済みか、正式に決定したかは文脈で確認してください。

Q. この三分類は英検3級Readingの公式問題形式ですか？
