When the school held a visitors’ day, students made signs to help families find different classrooms. The signs had English names and arrows. A student named Haru noticed that some visitors stopped and looked confused near the stairs.

Haru first thought the arrows were pointing in the wrong direction. Her friend Ken checked the map and found that the arrows were correct. The real problem was that two classroom names looked very similar, and the letters were small.

Instead of changing the directions, the students used larger letters and added different symbols beside the room names. They also put a second sign at the corner where visitors needed to turn.

Five families tried the new signs. Four found their rooms without asking for help, while one still asked a teacher. Haru was pleased, but she did not claim that every visitor could now find every room. Only five families had tested the signs.

Before the next visitors’ day, Haru and Ken plan to ask more families to try the route and to check whether the symbols are easy for younger children to understand.

  1. What did Haru think was wrong at first?

    1. The school was closed.
    2. The arrows were pointing in the wrong direction.
    3. The families disliked English.
    4. The classrooms had no names.
  2. What was the actual problem with the signs?

    1. The room names looked alike and the letters were small.
    2. There were no arrows at all.
    3. The signs were all outside the school.
    4. The school map had been lost.
  3. How many families found their rooms without asking for help?

    1. One.
    2. Five.
    3. Four.
    4. Ten.
  4. Why didn’t Haru say the signs worked for every visitor?

    1. No one had used the signs.
    2. The arrows were all wrong.
    3. The teacher had closed the rooms.
    4. Only five families had tested them.
  5. What will Haru and Ken check next?

    1. The price of school lunches.
    2. Whether younger children can understand the symbols.
    3. How to repair the stairs.
    4. Which bus leaves at six.

  1. 正答:B. The arrows were pointing in the wrong direction.

  2. 正答:A. The room names looked alike and the letters were small.

  3. 正答:C. Four.

  4. 正答:D. Only five families had tested them.

  5. 正答:B. Whether younger children can understand the symbols.

I will write two questions about the drums and other instruments. I can send them on Saturday evening before the exhibition.

Yes, I do. First, clear signs help visitors find rooms more quickly. Second, simple symbols can help younger children understand directions. Good signs also make school events more welcoming.

  1. Have you ever (give / given) a speech?
  3. Toma
  1. given
