I will introduce our local food bank. My friend Chloe will show pictures of a community garden where families grow vegetables.

説明文|町の暑さを比較した生徒(問26〜30)

Four students wanted to know whether the town park was cooler than the school playground in summer. One afternoon, they measured 29 degrees in the park and 34 degrees in the playground.

A student said that the park was always five degrees cooler. Their teacher reminded the group that the measurements had been taken only once. The park had been measured in the shade at two o’clock, but the playground had been measured in direct sunlight at three o’clock.

The students realized that the places and times were different. They decided to measure both places at the same times for several days and to record whether each thermometer was in sunlight or shade.

They also planned to use the same kind of thermometer in both places. Their new report would explain exactly what they measured and what they still needed to check.

The class learned that a difference between two numbers does not always prove a general rule.

  1. What was the temperature in the town park?

    1. 25 degrees.
    2. 34 degrees.
    3. 29 degrees.
    4. 30 degrees.
  2. How much cooler was the first park measurement?

    1. Two degrees.
    2. Three degrees.
    3. Four degrees.
    4. Five degrees.
  3. Why couldn’t the class conclude the park was always cooler?

    1. They measured at different times and under different light conditions.
    2. No temperatures were recorded.
    3. Both places had the same temperature.
    4. The students were measuring the weather in winter.
  4. What will students record in the improved test?

    1. Only the temperature in the park.
    2. Whether each thermometer is in sun or shade.
    3. Only the color of the thermometer.
    4. The number of people in the playground.
  5. Why will they use the same kind of thermometer?

    1. To make the report longer.
    2. To increase the temperature.
    3. To keep measuring equipment consistent.
    4. To take photographs more easily.
