英検2級の句動詞は目的語をどこに置く？｜turn it off・look after itの違いと独自48問【全解答】

英検2級の熟語で、turn off it と turn it off、look it after と look after itのどちらが正しいか迷う方へ。英語の「動詞＋副詞」には目的語を間に置ける句動詞があり、代名詞を目的語にするときは通常その間に入れます。一方、look after / rely on / listen toのように前置詞と結び付く表現では、目的語を前置詞の後ろへ置きます。すべての熟語に一つの語順を当てはめないことが重要です。

結論｜turn it offは正しく、turn off itは一般に誤り

この表は「目的語を伴う」用法の比較です。例えばtake offは「飛行機が離陸する」ときには目的語なしでも使われます。句動詞の意味と文型を一緒に確認してください。

日本英語検定協会の公式試験内容では、Readingの短文語句空所補充17問、長文語句空所補充6問、長文内容一致8問、Writingの英文要約・意見英作文が出題されます。句動詞の語順だけを問う固定の大問があるわけではありませんが、正しい語法は語句選択・読解・英作文に応用できます。

分離可能・分離不可を判断する手順

1. 句動詞が「他動詞＋副詞」型か、「動詞＋前置詞」型かを確認。
2. 目的語が名詞句なら、分離可能型では動詞の後・副詞の後の両方の配置を確認。
3. 目的語がit / themなどの代名詞なら、分離可能型では動詞と副詞の間に置く。
4. look after / rely on / run intoなどでは目的語を前置詞の後ろに置く。

動詞と小辞の間に置ける長い目的語には自然さの違いもあります。まず短い名詞句・代名詞を使い、基本の語順から練習しましょう。

よくある質問

turn off it はなぜ間違いですか？

電源を切る意味の分離可能なturn offでは、itのような代名詞目的語を動詞とoffの間に置き、turn it offとします。

look after it はなぜitを後ろに置きますか？

look afterは「世話をする」という動詞＋前置詞の表現で、itはafterの目的語です。look it afterとはしません。

名詞目的語ならどこへ置いてもよいですか？

分離可能な句動詞では両方可能な場合がありますが、全ての句動詞で自由に配置できるわけではありません。特に分離不可の表現と区別してください。

look forward to の後は不定詞ですか？
