英検2級の二次面接No.3・No.4で、質問を聞き取れたつもりなのに何を答えればよいか分からなくなる方へ。重要なのは、Do you think schools should …?とDo you think more people will …?の違いです。前者は「すべきか」という意見、後者は「今後そうなると思うか」という予測を尋ねています。同じ話題でも答える内容が変わります。

公式の2級二次試験でNo.3・No.4は何をする？

英検協会・2級の試験内容では、約7分の二次面接でNo.3は問題カードの話題に関連した意見、No.4は日常生活などの一般的な事柄についての意見を述べる形式です。公式の面接問題カードに今回の32問が載っているわけではありません。質問の意味を正確に理解し、自分の考えと理由を簡潔に答えるための慶英会独自教材です。

答える前に3秒で確認する手順

1. ShouldかWillかを聞く。
2. 問われている対象はstudents / schools / cities / all peopleなど誰かを確認する。
3. 自分の答えを1文で示し、理由を1〜2文で補う。未来予測にはmayやprobably、条件がある場合はifを使える。

「3秒」は慶英会の練習上の目安で、実際の英検で3秒の準備時間が公式に与えられるという意味ではありません。回答を長くしようとして沈黙するより、まず質問に対応する短い結論を出す練習です。

答えは短くても質問と関係のある内容を伝えることが重要です。英語での意見そのものに唯一の正解はありません。表現の不自然さや文法を練習後に確認しましょう。

7日間の使い方

1日目はQ1〜8、2日目はQ9〜16、3日目はQ17〜24を練習します。4〜5日目は修正8問を4問ずつ、6日目に同じ話題をShouldとWillの両方で練習し、7日目は英検協会の公式面接サンプルで試験形式を確認してください。模範を暗記するだけでなく、自分の言葉に置き換えることが重要です。

よくある質問

Shouldで聞かれたのにwillで答えると必ず0点ですか？

特定の表現だけで一律に0点になるという公式の根拠は確認できません。ただし、質問の趣旨に答えていなければ内容が伝わりにくくなります。聞かれた助動詞と質問の対象を優先して確認してください。

Willの質問では必ずYesと答える必要がありますか？

ありません。可能性が低いと思うならI don’t think so、判断が難しいならpossiblyなど、根拠に沿って答える練習ができます。

No.3とNo.4は同じ話題ですか？

公式案内ではNo.3はカードに関連する話題、No.4は一般的な日常の事柄に関する意見などを尋ねる形式です。話題が異なっても質問に答える基本は共通です。

意見と予測の違いを日本語で理解してから英語で答えてもよいですか？

家庭学習では役立ちます。ただし本番では時間が限られるため、練習が進んだらShouldを聞いて賛否、Willを聞いて予測と根拠を直接英文で答える練習へ移りましょう。
