Tool Lending at a Community Library

A|Reading:

A community library began lending simple household tools, including gardening equipment and small hand tools. Residents can borrow items they rarely use instead of purchasing them. The library checks each tool when it is returned and provides instructions for safe use.

The service may help families save money, but popular tools are often unavailable at weekends. To manage demand, the library introduced online reservations and telephone bookings for residents who do not use the internet.

Staff are also considering repair workshops led by trained volunteers. These have not started yet because the library must confirm the safety arrangements. Officials will examine maintenance costs before deciding whether to expand the service.

A community library lends simple tools so residents can avoid buying items they rarely need. This may save money, but popular tools are sometimes unavailable. The library accepts online and telephone reservations. Repair workshops are being considered, although safety arrangements must be confirmed before they can begin.

C|Writing:

TOPIC:Do you think public libraries should lend household tools as well as books?

I think some public libraries should lend simple household tools as well as books. First, borrowing items can help families save money. A family may need a gardening tool only once, so purchasing it could be unnecessary. Second, shared tools may reduce waste by allowing residents to use equipment more efficiently. However, libraries need clear safety rules and enough staff to check returned items. They should also offer reservations for people who do not use the internet. With these precautions, tool lending could become a useful service for many communities.

Studying Water Use at School

A|Reading:

A junior high school installed digital meters to display daily water use in different parts of its building. Science teachers asked students to compare the numbers on school days and weekends. The aim was to connect classroom lessons with everyday behavior.

After several weeks, students noticed a change in water use at the gym. Some suggested that fewer sports teams had used the building, but the school did not have enough information to prove this explanation.

A school installed digital water meters to support science lessons about everyday use. Students observed a change in gym consumption but could not prove its cause. Teachers plan to collect more data and explain how to check taps for leaks. The school has not yet measured a reduction in waste.

C|Writing:

TOPIC:Do you think schools should teach students how to reduce water waste?

I think schools should teach students how to reduce water waste. First, learning about water use can help young people notice problems in daily life. For example, students may remember to close taps properly and report leaks. Second, activities such as measuring water use can make science lessons more practical. Students can compare information and discuss possible causes of changes. However, teachers should not claim that an activity has reduced waste without reliable evidence. These lessons are useful because students learn both careful habits and ways to examine results.

Quiet Visiting Hours at a Museum

A|Reading:

A city museum began offering quieter visiting hours one morning each week. During these hours, some announcements are turned off, visitor numbers are limited, and written explanations are provided. The service was designed for people who find crowded, noisy rooms difficult to enjoy.

Many visitors who completed a short survey said the environment helped them concentrate. However, the survey did not include every visitor, and the museum had not measured whether people stayed longer than usual.

I think more museums should consider offering quiet visiting hours. First, some visitors find noisy spaces difficult, so a calmer environment may help them enjoy exhibitions. Written explanations can also support people who prefer reading information. Second, offering different visiting times gives families more choices. However, museums must manage staffing and ticket income carefully because limiting attendance may reduce sales. I do not think every museum needs exactly the same system, but some facilities could provide this option if they have enough resources and clear rules for visitors.
