1:Learning from a School Repair Library
A growing number of schools are lending small tools and repair kits to students. The purpose is not to turn every student into a professional technician. Instead, schools want students to understand how everyday objects are made and how simple maintenance may extend their useful life.
One school started with sewing kits and bicycle pumps, since these items are easy to use with basic training. Some students repaired school bags or prepared their bicycles for a short trip. (18), the school organized demonstrations so that students could practice safely before borrowing items to take home.
Teachers noticed that a few students reserved kits but did not collect them. Other students then had to wait even though the items were sitting unused. (19), the school introduced a rule that reservations would be released after one day unless the borrower contacted the office. This made the limited collection available to more students.
The program was popular, but staff refused to measure its success by loan numbers alone. They also recorded repair costs and reported accidents, since a lending service should not expand (20) it has enough resources to operate safely.

説明文2:Why Cities Observe Nighttime Temperatures
Summer temperatures in a city can remain high long after sunset. Roads and buildings absorb heat during the day and release it slowly at night. As a result, a residential area with little shade may feel warmer than a nearby park, even when both places are only a short distance apart.
One community asked volunteers to record temperatures at several fixed locations each evening. The volunteers used the same kind of thermometer and followed similar instructions. (21), their data could be compared more reliably than readings taken at random times with different instruments.
The measurements suggested that some streets remained particularly warm. However, researchers warned against concluding that buildings were the only cause. Wind, traffic, cloud cover, and the placement of instruments could also affect results. (22), the community decided to continue its observations across different weather conditions before choosing a solution.
Residents discussed trees and more reflective surfaces as possible improvements. Yet these changes would require money and maintenance. The group agreed to test smaller projects first and examine the results (23) installing expensive equipment throughout the entire neighborhood.

長文1:Email|A Historical Photo Exhibition
To: Local History Club Volunteers
From: Maya Chen, Town Museum Education Office
Subject: Exhibition schedule and image permissions
Thank you for helping with the local history exhibition on November 21. The opening ceremony is scheduled for 10:30 a.m., but student volunteers must arrive by 9:15 for registration and safety instructions. The museum’s second-floor gallery will be closed for repairs, so all displays have been moved to the first-floor hall. The exhibition date has not changed.
The museum will provide display boards and standard electrical outlets. If your group wants to use a video projector, please request one by November 12. Our automatic email confirms only that your request has arrived. The equipment team will send a separate notice after checking whether a projector is available and safe to use.
Please remember that permission to display a photograph inside the museum is not always permission to upload it to a public website. Students who want to share images online should contact the museum with the photograph’s identification number and the planned use. We will consult the rights holders when necessary. Do not assume that a smaller image is automatically allowed.
If you need to change your volunteer shift, please tell us by November 15. We cannot promise to accept requests after that date because name cards and supervision schedules must be prepared in advance. We look forward to presenting the town’s history accurately and respectfully.

長文2:Article|When Community Energy Projects Work
Some towns are considering shared solar-energy projects in which several public buildings use electricity from a common installation. Supporters hope the projects will reduce the need to purchase electricity from other sources and help residents understand renewable energy. However, the benefits depend on local conditions and careful planning.
Solar panels generate different amounts of electricity according to sunlight and weather. A panel’s maximum capacity does not mean it will produce that amount all day. The town must also consider the condition of the roof or land used for installation, the cost of connecting equipment, and future maintenance. These expenses can be significant even if the equipment is partly paid for by a grant.
One town began with a small system serving a library and a community center. Officials recorded energy production and compared it with the buildings’ electricity needs at different times. The library used much of its power during the day, while the community center had some evening activities. This showed that the timing of demand mattered as well as the total number of panels.
The planners also talked with residents who were worried about the appearance of the equipment and the use of public funds. They published regular updates and explained which measurements would determine whether the trial was successful. When production was lower than expected during several cloudy weeks, they reported the difference rather than hiding it.
After the first year, researchers recommended examining real energy savings, reliability, operating costs, and public access to the results before expanding the system. They cautioned that installing a large number of panels is not itself proof of success. A useful project must meet genuine needs and remain affordable to operate over time.
問28
What affects how much electricity solar panels produce?
- Only the number of library visitors.
- The building’s opening ceremony.
- The color of public information boards.
- Sunlight and weather conditions.
D:Sunlight and weather conditions.。generate different amounts according to sunlight and weather。

問29
What did the first trial reveal?
- The total number of panels was the only important factor.
- Electricity demand at different times also mattered.
- Both buildings used all electricity at night.
- The grant covered every future maintenance cost.
B:Electricity demand at different times also mattered.。library day, community center evening → timing of demand important。

問30
How did the town respond when production was lower than expected?
- It canceled all public announcements.
- It claimed the system was producing more.
- It reported the difference openly.
- It assumed the trial no longer needed measurement.

Some local libraries have begun lending devices that allow residents to measure temperature, electricity use, or noise levels at home. Supporters say these tools can help people understand their living environments and make decisions about energy saving. Sharing the equipment also means that residents do not need to buy expensive devices they will use only occasionally.
However, measuring tools may be difficult to operate correctly, and a single reading can be misleading. For example, temperature and noise levels can change throughout the day. Libraries must also inspect devices after loans and provide instructions for safe and accurate use.
To address these problems, some libraries offer short demonstrations and simple recording sheets. They encourage users to measure at several times and compare the results carefully. The goal is to build practical understanding rather than make strong conclusions from one measurement.
Some libraries lend measuring devices to help residents understand home conditions and avoid buying expensive tools. However, the devices require careful use, and single measurements may be misleading. Libraries therefore provide demonstrations, check equipment, and encourage people to compare readings taken at different times before drawing conclusions.
Writing Part 5|
TOPIC:Do you think students should learn how to check the accuracy of online information at school?
I think students should learn how to check online information at school. First, inaccurate information can spread quickly, especially when a website looks professional. Students should compare claims with reliable sources before using them in reports. Second, these skills help people make safer decisions in daily life. For example, an old notice about public transport may cause someone to miss an important appointment. Teachers could give students short exercises that require checking publication dates, evidence, and the original source. By practicing regularly, students would become more independent and responsible users of information.
