Reading Part 2|
1|Digital Book Access at Town Libraries
Many public libraries lend electronic books in addition to paper copies. Some digital editions allow readers to enlarge text or search for words. However, not every resident owns a suitable device, and not every electronic book works well with screen-reading software.
One library introduced its digital collection at a special event. The room was crowded, but only a small number of people borrowed books repeatedly afterward. (18), managers began recording repeat loans instead of treating opening-day attendance as proof of long-term demand.
Several readers reported that certain diagrams were difficult to understand with screen readers. The staff discovered that accessibility differed among titles. (19), they tested books with readers who had different needs before recommending them as accessible.
Digital licenses and technical support also cost money. The library plans to expand its collection (20) printed books remain available to people who need them.

2|Testing Evening Bus Routes
Some towns are testing evening bus routes for workers who leave their jobs after regular services end. Such buses can make travel home easier, but drivers, fuel and repairs create extra costs.
One route began operating on the same weekend as a large festival. The first buses were full, while later weekday journeys were much quieter. (21), officials compared ordinary weekday passengers with festival visitors rather than assuming that opening-weekend demand would continue.
Some passengers using wheelchairs had difficulty reaching the temporary stop because the path contained steps. The town moved the stop closer to a wide and level sidewalk. (22), more passengers could reach the bus without a long detour.
The town will compare operating costs, weekday demand and accessibility before making a permanent decision. The final timetable will be announced (23) these results have been reviewed.
問21

長文1|E-mail|Community Weather Exhibition
To: Student Exhibition Teams
From: Harbor Learning Center
Subject: Arrangements for November 21
Thank you for registering for our weather and maps exhibition on Saturday, November 21. Visitors may enter from 10:00 a.m. We originally planned to use the upstairs computer room, but the lift beside it is being repaired. The exhibition will instead be held in the ground-floor hall. The date and starting time are unchanged.
Team leaders should arrive by 9:15 for name cards and a safety briefing. The hall will provide tables and normal electrical outlets. Teams that want to use special sensors must submit requests by November 13. An automatic email confirms receipt only; technical staff will send a separate approval after inspecting the equipment.
Only trained students and approved supervisors may operate electrical equipment. Visitors may watch from marked spaces. If a display includes photographs or recordings of other people, teams should check permission for public exhibition rather than assuming classroom permission is enough.
Please report changes to the number of presenters by November 16. Later changes may be refused because staff and seating plans must be finalized. The final schedule will be emailed on November 18.

長文2|Article|Green Routes Across Roads
Roads sometimes divide forests into smaller areas. This can make it difficult for birds and other animals to move between feeding and nesting places. Some towns plant trees along bridges or improve vegetation near underpasses to help wildlife cross.
However, planting trees does not automatically improve movement. Some species avoid traffic noise, and others need thick vegetation. Researchers in one town observed a bridge before changing it. They recorded where birds crossed, when they appeared, and how many vehicles passed nearby.
After planting bushes beside the bridge, the team saw more small birds in the area. Yet the weather was also warmer, and some counts took place at different times. The researchers avoided claiming that the bushes alone caused the increase. They repeated observations under similar conditions before judging the project’s effect.
People also used the bridge. The new vegetation narrowed a path needed by pedestrians and wheelchair users, so planners moved some bushes away and installed signs protecting nearby nests. They kept records of watering and maintenance expenses.
At the end of the trial, officials said that wildlife movement, safe public access, and continuing maintenance were better measures of success than the number of trees planted. They planned more surveys before expanding the work.
問28
What was measured before the bridge was changed?
- Only the number of new trees.
- Only ticket sales at the station.
- Bird movement, observation times, and nearby traffic.
- The cost of building a new school.

- One afternoon of data is always sufficient.
- Actual animal use, safety, and maintenance should determine success.
- Only the initial price matters.

Writing Part 4|
Some schools give students digital textbooks to use on tablets or computers. These books may include searchable words, enlarged text, and materials that teachers can update quickly. They can help students learn without carrying many heavy printed books.
However, digital devices and software licenses cost money. Some learners lack reliable internet at home, while others find screens difficult to read. If a tablet breaks, homework that is available only online may become inaccessible.
Schools can help by providing replacement devices, offering downloadable or printed materials, and teaching safe account use. They should compare learning outcomes with maintenance costs before expanding digital textbook programs.
Digital textbooks offer searchable, adjustable, and updated materials, helping students learn more conveniently. However, devices, licenses, and repairs are costly, and weak internet or broken tablets may interrupt homework. Schools can lend replacements, provide offline or printed options, teach account safety, and evaluate results and costs before expanding.
Writing Part 5|
TOPIC:Do you think towns should provide more free study spaces for teenagers?
I think towns should provide more free study spaces for teenagers. First, some students cannot concentrate at home because their families share small rooms. Public spaces could give them fairer learning opportunities. Second, study rooms may help teenagers use time effectively after school. For example, students could finish homework while waiting for evening buses. However, towns should consider staff, electricity, cleaning, and accessibility before opening new rooms. Officials should also measure regular use rather than only examination-week crowds. With careful planning, free study spaces can benefit students without creating unnecessary long-term costs.
