- 逆接・対照:however / nevertheless / although / whereas。
- 因果:because / because of / therefore / consequently / due to。
- 条件:if / unless / provided that / even if。
- 指示・照応:this / these / the former / the latter / which。
- 確実性:may / could / not necessarily / some / all。
1:Some libraries may improve access. → All libraries will solve the problem.
2:Although repairs are expensive, they may prevent failures. → Repairs are expensive, so they cause failures.
3:The report identified two problems; the latter was related to privacy. → Both problems were about privacy.

Many supermarkets are reviewing the dates printed on packaged foods. A date that indicates the period of best quality is sometimes interpreted by shoppers as a warning that the product becomes unsafe immediately afterward. As a result, edible products may be discarded even when they have been stored properly. Consumer groups argue that clearer explanations could prevent unnecessary waste. Retailers also have an incentive to reduce discarded inventory, although any change in labeling must preserve confidence in food safety.
However, the issue is more complicated than simply extending every date. Products vary in their ingredients, packaging, and storage requirements, and some are particularly sensitive to temperature changes. A label that encourages consumers to use judgment might be suitable for one category but misleading for another. Households also differ in their understanding of safe storage. Therefore, replacing specific dates with vague instructions could shift responsibility to consumers without providing enough information for sound decisions.
Several companies are testing a more targeted approach. They distinguish safety-related expiration information from quality-related recommendations and supplement labels with clear storage guidance. Some stores also discount products approaching their quality date, while collecting data on how much waste is actually prevented. Supporters hope these measures will reduce unnecessary disposal without weakening safety standards. Nevertheless, they acknowledge that the effects will depend on product type, consumer education, and the accuracy of the information provided.
Supermarkets are reconsidering food-date labels because consumers may mistake quality recommendations for immediate safety warnings, leading to avoidable waste. Clearer information could benefit shoppers and retailers, but extending dates indiscriminately would be risky because products have different storage and safety requirements. Vague labels might also place too much responsibility on consumers. Some companies therefore distinguish safety dates from quality guidance, provide storage instructions, and test discounts for products nearing their recommended dates. These measures aim to reduce unnecessary disposal while maintaining safety. However, their success depends on product characteristics, consumer understanding, and reliable information.

Universities are making more lecture notes, recorded classes, and exercises available to the public. Supporters argue that free learning materials can benefit people who cannot enroll in a degree program because of location, work schedules, or financial constraints. Teachers may also adapt useful resources rather than creating every lesson from the beginning. Open access can therefore spread the benefits of educational investment beyond a single campus.
Nevertheless, publishing a file is not the same as maintaining a useful course. Academic knowledge changes, digital links break, and recordings may become difficult to use with newer devices. Materials also need captions, accessible formats, and explanations suitable for learners without prior specialist training. Universities with limited budgets may struggle to finance these continuing tasks. As a result, a large collection of outdated files may appear impressive while providing less educational value than a smaller, carefully maintained set.
Some institutions are responding by focusing on quality rather than the number of items released. They establish review schedules, allow educators to report errors, and work together to share the cost of updating materials. Others begin with subjects that are especially suitable for self-study and provide guidance about prerequisites. These strategies require coordination and cannot eliminate every access barrier. However, they may help institutions offer resources that remain accurate and usable over time rather than treating public release as the end of the project.
Universities increasingly release free learning materials, allowing people unable to attend degree programs to study and enabling teachers to reuse resources. However, publishing files alone does not ensure lasting educational value. Content can become outdated, links may fail, and accessibility features and explanations require continued work. Limited budgets make these obligations difficult, so large collections may be less useful than smaller, maintained ones. Some universities therefore schedule reviews, share updating costs, correct errors, and prioritize resources appropriate for independent study. Although these measures cannot remove every barrier, they seek to keep open educational materials accurate, accessible, and useful over time.
