the most / the least最も多い/最も少ないReading was the most popular choice.
more A than BBよりAの方が多いMore students chose reading than sports.
the number of~の数The number of items fell from 18 to 11.
The number decreased by seven.
Forty percent of the students chose this action.
from A to BAからBへ変化The total fell from 40 to 26.

や Six students chose …

2:more than、less than、because、from … to …

English
A class asked 20 students what they liked to do after school. Each student chose one activity. Six students chose reading, five chose sports, four chose listening to music, three chose helping their families, and two chose other activities. The class made a table to compare the answers. Reading was the most popular choice, but the results did not mean that every student in the school liked reading best. The survey included only 20 students from one class. The teacher asked the class to describe the results carefully and to avoid making claims about students who had not answered the survey.

  11. How many students chose reading or sports?
  12. Write one English sentence comparing reading and sports.

Passage B|

English
A student group asked 50 students which environmental action they did most often. Twenty students said they usually used a reusable bottle. Twelve students said they walked or rode a bicycle when possible. Ten students said they sorted waste, and eight students said they brought their own shopping bags. The group showed the answers in a table. Using a reusable bottle was the most common choice in this survey. However, the group did not know whether the same choices would be made by all students or by people in the town. They decided to explain the results as answers from the 50 students, not as a complete picture of the whole community.

  11. After that change, what percent of the 50 students would choose “Sort waste”?
  12. What can the group conclude from the table, and what can it not conclude?

Passage C|

English
A class project group counted litter at three places along a path. The group recorded the number of items before putting up signs and placing bins with permission from the local office. One week later, the students counted the items at the same places again. The number near the bus stop fell from 18 to 11. Near the bridge, it fell from 12 to 8. At the park entrance, it fell from 10 to 7. The total went down from 40 items to 26 items. The group was glad to see fewer items, but it did not claim that the signs and bins were the only reason for the change. The weather, the number of people using the path, and other actions might also have affected the results.

Passage A|1〜12の解答

  1. What students liked to do after school.
  2. Twenty students.
  3. Reading. 6
  4. Other activities. 2
  5. Thirty percent. 6÷20×100=30%です。
  6. Three students.
  7. Nine students.
  8. One fifth (1/5). 4/20
  9. Because the survey included only 20 students from one class.
  10. (B) What Twenty Students Like to Do After School.
  11. Eleven students.
  12. Example: More students chose reading than sports.

Passage B|

Passage B|13〜24の解答

  1. Which environmental action the students did most often.
  2. Fifty students.
  3. Using a reusable bottle. 20
  4. Forty percent. 20÷50×100=40%です。
  5. Twelve students. 20-8=12人です。
  6. Twenty-two students.
  7. False.
  8. Because the survey included only 50 students, not everyone in the town.
  9. Example: More students used reusable bottles than brought shopping bags. 20
  10. Fourteen students.
  11. Twenty-eight percent. 14÷50×100=28%です。
  12. The group can describe the answers from these 50 students, but it cannot say that everyone in the town makes the same choices.

Passage C|

Passage C|25〜36の解答

  1. Litter / the number of litter items.
  2. Near the bus stop.
  3. Forty items. 18+12+10=40個です。
  4. Twenty-six items. 11+8+7=26個です。
  5. Fourteen items. 40-26=14
  6. Thirty-five percent. 14÷40×100=35%です。
  7. Near the bus stop. 18-11=7
  8. False.
  9. To compare the numbers at the same locations.
  11. The number of items near the bus stop fell from 18 to 11.
  12. Example: The total number of items decreased from 40 to 26, but more information is needed to identify the cause.

Three more students chose reading than helping their families.、「40個から26個に減った」はThe total fell from 40 to 26.
