結論
exceptはある集合から除外、except forは全体への評価で例外を示す、besidesは追加・ほかにも、includingは例示を含む意味です。apart fromは文脈により『〜を除いて』『〜のほかに』の両方になるため、肯定・否定の範囲に注意します。

使い分けの4原則
1. except＋名詞：All students except Ken attended.（健を除く生徒全員が出席）。人数を引く場面で用いる。
2. except for＋名詞：The report was accurate except for one date.（一つの日付を除けば正確）。全体に対する例外。
3. besides＋名詞：Besides English, she studies French.（英語のほかにフランス語も）。『加えて』の用法。beside（隣に）との違いにも注意。
4. apart from＋名詞は除外・追加の両義があり、including＋名詞は含める。意味が曖昧なapart fromは文脈を補う。

The school science fair had twelve planned exhibits, including a map display and a model bridge. On Friday morning, all the exhibits except the model bridge were ready. The bridge needed one more safety check. Besides the exhibits, the organizers had prepared two short talks for visitors. A student wrote that the fair contained fourteen exhibits, because he added the talks to the twelve displays. The teacher corrected him: the program had twelve exhibits and two talks, which were different categories. The announcement said that the fair was ready except for the bridge. Later, staff completed the check and approved the bridge display. The class then changed the notice to say that all twelve exhibits were ready, including the bridge. They learned that a small word showing inclusion or exclusion could change the meaning of an entire event report.
