主語の中心を見分ける3つの型
X percent of＋複数名詞：40% of the students are …。X percent of＋不可算名詞：40% of the water is …。The percentage of＋複数名詞：The percentage of students is …。この3つの中心語を取り違えると、are／isやhave／hasで失点します。
割合そのものと、割合を構成する人・物の違い
Thirty percent of the participants have arrived.では、到着しているのは複数の参加者です。The percentage of participants who arrived has increased.では、増えたのは『割合』という一つの指標です。The percentages for the three classes are different.のようにpercentage自体が複数ならareを使います。
