順序First, … Then, … Finally, …

音読用の独自英文(59語):Many community libraries provide quiet places for students to read and study. Some libraries are considering opening later on selected evenings because working adults and busy students cannot always visit during the day. However, extra opening hours require staff, security, and electricity. Library managers may test a limited schedule and compare costs with attendance before making a permanent decision.

1:A student arrives at a library after club activities but finds the entrance closed.
2:The student explains the problem to a librarian, who suggests a short trial of evening hours.
3:The staff begin a trial, collect attendance information, and decide to check whether the service is practical.
  1. Why are some libraries considering later opening hours?
  2. What additional resources do evening services require?
  3. What can managers test before making a permanent change?
  4. Does the passage claim that all libraries should open late every day?
  5. What problem does the student face in the first scene?
  6. What does the librarian suggest in the second scene?
  7. What is the purpose of collecting attendance in the third scene?
  8. Should libraries offer evening study spaces for teenagers?
  9. Do you think students should use public libraries more often?
  10. Is it important to test public service changes before expanding them?

音読用の独自英文(57語):Local museums often display old photographs that show how towns have changed. Pictures can make history interesting, and visitors may share memories about familiar streets. However, some images do not have accurate dates, and personal memories may be mistaken. Museum workers should compare photographs with reliable records and explain which details remain uncertain instead of inventing information.

1:A student discovers an old photograph without a confirmed date.
2:The student asks a museum worker to check records, but no document establishes the exact year.
3:The group labels the date as uncertain and gives visitors an explanation of the evidence.
  1. What do old photographs help visitors understand?
  2. What problem can museum photographs have?
  3. How can museum workers check details?
  4. What should workers do when the exact date remains unknown?
  5. What is missing from the photograph in the first scene?
  6. What does the museum worker find in the second scene?
  7. How does the student group describe the photograph in the final scene?
  8. Should museums explain uncertainty to visitors?
  9. Do you think students can learn history from photographs?
  10. Is it better to admit missing information than to make a guess?

音読用の独自英文(64語):Students sometimes try to reduce electricity use at school by switching off lights and unused computers. Such projects can teach responsibility and teamwork. However, lower electricity use does not always result from new habits alone. Holidays, weather, and changes in classroom use may also affect the figures. Students should record these conditions and compare similar periods before claiming that their actions caused a reduction.

1:A group notices lights left on in an empty classroom and decides to prepare reminders.
2:The group puts signs near switches, but the next week’s electricity use is lower during a school holiday.
3:They review the conditions and plan a longer comparison before reporting that the signs saved electricity.

  2. What skills can electricity projects teach?
  3. What conditions may affect electricity figures besides students’ behavior?
  4. How should students compare electricity use fairly?
  5. What problem does the group find in the first scene?
  6. Why might the lower figure in scene two be misleading?
  7. What will the students do before claiming success?
  8. Should schools teach students to save energy?
  9. Can signs alone solve environmental problems?
  10. Is collecting accurate data important for school projects?

音読用の独自英文(58語):Online meetings can give students opportunities to practice English with people in other countries without traveling abroad. They may discover new school routines and learn to ask respectful questions. However, differences in time zones, unstable connections, and unfamiliar accents can interrupt conversations. Teachers should prepare suitable topics, explain privacy rules, and help participants ask for clarification when necessary.

1:A student prepares questions for an online meeting with classmates in another country.
2:During the conversation, the connection becomes unstable and the student politely asks a partner to repeat an answer.
