資料英文の3つのポイント
高1が60人で利用24人・非利用36人、高2が40人で利用28人・非利用12人なら、全体100人、利用52人、非利用48人です。
高2のうち利用した割合は28÷40＝70％。利用者のうち高2の割合は28÷52≒53.8％です。条件の方向が変わると分母が変わります。
高1利用率は24÷60＝40％、高2利用率は28÷40＝70％で差は30パーセントポイントです。ただしなぜ差が生じたかはこの表だけでは分かりません。

Original Reading: A high school asked one hundred students whether they had used an optional study room during the previous week. Sixty respondents were first-year students. Of these, twenty-four had used the room and thirty-six had not. The other forty respondents were second-year students; twenty-eight had used it, while twelve had not. The student council organized the results into a two-way table showing school year and room use. It calculated that forty percent of first-year respondents used the room, compared with seventy percent of second-year respondents. One member then said that seventy percent of all room users were second-year students. The teacher corrected the statement: among the fifty-two users, twenty-eight were in their second year, or about fifty-three point eight percent. The number twenty-eight was the same in both calculations, but the denominator had changed. The committee reported both rates and noted that the table did not explain why the grades differed. It recommended asking about timetable and transportation factors in a later survey.
