in a senseは一つの観点を取り出す
Cambridge Dictionaryはin a senseを「ある一つの考え方で見るなら、必ずしもすべての考え方でなく」という意味で説明します。In a sense, this is a success. は成功の側面があることを述べますが、全項目で成功したという断定ではありません。続く文でどの面に限るのか探してください。
to some extentは程度の限定で％とは一致しない
The method was effective to some extent. は「ある程度効果があった」という定性的な評価です。50％の効果と決まっているわけではありません。数字を求める設問では本文が与えた測定値だけを使い、表現の印象から割合を創作しないようにします。
in some respectsは測定項目が複数あるとき役立つ
作業時間が30分から20分に短縮しても、正確性の検査が終わっていなければ The guide is better in some respects. と限定できます。何の観点で改善したか、未確認の観点は何かを明示すると、根拠のあるCritical Writingにつながります。
in no senseは部分的な肯定ではなく強い否定
In no sense does the report prove causation. は「どの意味でもその報告は因果関係を証明しない」という強い否定です。文頭ではdoes the reportのように倒置します。in a senseの部分的肯定と正反対になるため注意してください。
Stage5英作文の短いモデル
In one sense, the new guide is promising because students completed the task more quickly. However, accuracy was not measured, so it is too early to call the guide effective in every respect. To some extent, the result supports further testing, but it does not establish a causal effect.
和訳：ある意味で新しいガイドには期待が持てる。生徒の作業がより早く終わったからだ。しかし正確性は測定されていないため、あらゆる点で効果的と呼ぶのは早い。この結果はある程度、追加試験を支持するが、因果的な効果を確立したものではない。

Fictional Editing Practice Trial. Twenty students took part in an exercise using a revised editing guide. The average time required to complete the task fell from thirty minutes to twenty minutes. The teacher said, “In one respect, the revised guide appears helpful: the task was completed faster.” However, the class had not assessed the accuracy of the revised work. The teacher therefore refused to claim that the guide was better in every respect. There was no comparison group, so the results did not prove that the guide alone had caused the change. The report presented the observed time difference and the remaining uncertainties separately.

Fictional Study Format Survey. Thirty students answered a question about their preferred learning format. Eighteen preferred small-group activities and twelve preferred individual work. The organiser said, “In a sense, small-group activities may be a useful option, since more respondents preferred them.” However, the study recorded preferences, not test scores or long-term learning outcomes. The teacher agreed to some extent but pointed out that the survey did not show which format was more effective for all students. The committee planned to compare learning outcomes in a later trial before making a school-wide recommendation.

英文Bの全文和訳
