結論：比較型英作文では、ただ「Aは良い、Bも良い」と並べるだけでは不十分です。費用・利用しやすさ・安全性など共通の比較基準を定め、同じ基準で両者を比較すると、読者が判断できる英文になります。 本記事は高校1・2年生がNEW TREASURE Stage5のRead・Critical Writingに対応するための慶英会独自教材です。学校や採用Stage・版の違いを踏まえ、出版社の英文・解答を転載せず創作英文で学びます。
学習目標と基本解説
目標は本文の事実、筆者の意図、条件付きの提案、確かな根拠を区別し、初見長文の英問英答と英作文に使うことです。
Compare A with B on the same criteria.例えば紙の配布物とアプリを比較するなら、費用・更新速度・利用可能性の三軸を両方に適用します。片方は費用、もう片方は印象という比較は根拠が分かりにくくなります。
point-by-point structureは基準ごとにAとBを比較する構成。block structureはAの特徴をまとめてからBをまとめる構成です。どちらも成立しますが、論点が多い場合はpoint-by-pointが違いを追いやすいことがあります。
while・whereasは対照、both・similarlyは共通点、howeverは逆接を示します。結論では条件を明示して、どちらがどの場面で適するかを述べます。

独自演習C｜初見長文5問と全文和訳
Original Reading: The school newsletter team compared two ways of distributing information: printed sheets and a mobile application. Instead of describing only the advantages of one option, the team chose three shared criteria: cost, speed of correction, and accessibility. Under the cost criterion, printed sheets were inexpensive for a small class, but printing for the entire school would require additional paper and staff time. Under speed of correction, the application performed better because messages could be updated immediately. Under accessibility, paper remained important for families that did not use smartphones. The team organized its report point by point, discussing both methods under each criterion. Its final recommendation was to retain printed notices while testing the application for urgent updates. 初日に和訳10問を解き、翌日は記述5問を解答なしで再現します。3日後は長文の根拠となる英文を特定。1週間後は学校指定のReadから同じ論理の流れを一つ探し、50〜70語程度の英文で要点を説明してみましょう。語数は独自練習の目安であり、学校課題の指定を優先してください。
