At first, the principal of a fictional high school opposed keeping the library open after six o’clock. She argued that there were too few staff members to supervise the room safely. The student council then proposed a two-week trial on Tuesdays and Thursdays, with one teacher present and a maximum of twenty seats. During the trial, the library recorded ninety visits, but the number of distinct visitors was only thirty-five. No safety incident was recorded. After reviewing these results, the principal revised her position. She said she was now willing to support another limited trial, provided that supervision could be maintained. However, she did not approve permanent late opening. The council still had to estimate staffing costs and ask students who could not attend on those days about their needs. In her final statement, the principal emphasized that the trial demonstrated some demand but did not establish that the same arrangement would remain safe or affordable throughout the year.

A teacher initially welcomed an automated writing-feedback tool because it returned comments much faster than ordinary marking. In a fictional six-week project, twenty students volunteered to use the tool. Fifteen reported that the feedback arrived quickly. The teacher’s first newsletter said that the tool had improved the quality of every student’s writing. She later checked an independent writing task completed without the tool. Twelve of the twenty students met the task’s target standard before the project, while thirteen met it afterward. The teacher realized that the difference was small and that no comparison group had been included. She therefore changed her statement. She still supported using the tool for optional revision practice but no longer claimed that it had improved every student’s ability. She also asked students to explain the changes they accepted instead of copying suggestions they did not understand. Her revised position distinguished rapid feedback from demonstrated learning.

A student committee at a fictional school first rejected a proposal to plant thirty new trees. Members worried that the school had too little water during the dry season. A science teacher then suggested collecting rainwater from a roof and using it for a small demonstration garden. The committee received an estimate that the system might provide seventy percent of the garden’s expected water needs in an average rainy season. This was a projection, not a measured result. After discussing it, the committee revised its position from complete rejection to conditional support for a pilot with five trees. The pilot would be approved only if a teacher supervised water use and the school could supply the remaining water without affecting essential facilities. The group did not claim that the larger thirty-tree project had become feasible. It planned to measure actual rainfall and water use throughout the pilot before deciding whether to expand.

A student newspaper at a fictional school initially supported a proposal requiring all students to wear the same jacket. The editor believed that a common design would make school events easier to organize. Later, the newspaper conducted a voluntary survey. Of 120 students invited, eighty responded: forty-two supported the proposal, twenty-eight opposed it, and ten were undecided. The editor’s first article said that a clear majority of all invited students supported mandatory jackets. Another writer challenged that claim, pointing out that forty-two was a majority of respondents but not a majority of all 120 invitees. The paper also received comments about cost and the availability of different sizes. In a revised editorial, the newspaper no longer supported immediate compulsory use. Instead, it proposed a voluntary six-month trial with financial assistance for families that needed it. The editor noted that even this proposal would require approval from the school and that opinions might change after students tried the jackets.

However, after …, … Therefore, …」
モデル(資料A):Initially, the principal opposed later library opening because supervision was limited. After a short trial suggested some demand, she became willing to support another trial under clear supervision requirements. However, she did not approve permanent opening because long-term costs and safety had not yet been established.
モデル(資料B):The teacher initially praised the tool for its quick feedback. After checking an independent writing task, she withdrew the claim that every student’s writing had improved. She still supported optional revision practice but called for better evidence before making claims about learning gains.
