NEW TREASURE Stage4・5のRead・会話・英作文で、So do I / Neither do I / Nor can I / Neither … nor / Either … orの語順を間違えると、同意したのか、否定したのか、二つのどちらかを選ぶのかが逆になります。`So do I.` は相手の肯定内容への同意、`Neither do I.` は否定内容への同意です。さらに `Either Aya or Ken …` と `Neither Aya nor Ken …` では意味が異なるため、助動詞の位置と否定の範囲を同時に確認します。

So do Iは同じ動詞を繰り返さないための倒置
A: I can solve the problem. B: So can I. という返答ではcanを繰り返し、solve the problemは省きます。be動詞ならSo am I、過去ならSo did I、現在完了ならSo have Iのように、元の文の助動詞・時制と、新しい主語の人称を合わせます。通常の同意ではSo I doではなくSo do Iという語順です。

Neither do IとI don’t eitherはどちらも否定への一致
I can’t attend. → Neither can I. / I can’t either. のように、否定内容への同意にも複数の形式があります。Neither I canは標準的な語順ではありません。norも否定への同意を示すことができます。元文が過去なのにNeither do Iと答えたり、肯定なのにNeitherと答えたりしないようにします。
Cambridge DictionaryのNeither, neither … nor and not … eitherは、否定の同意と、neitherが二者とも否定する仕組みを説明しています。
Neither … norとEither … orの主語の一致
- Either A or B：二者のどちらか一方。少なくとも一方という意味で用いられる文脈もあるため選択条件を確認。
- Neither A nor B：二者とも当てはまらない。
- Not only A but also B：AだけでなくBも。
- 動詞の一致：either/or・neither/norは後ろの主語に近い要素へ一致する形が一般的。複雑なら文を組み替える。
- Not onlyを文頭へ出す場合：Not only did A …, but B also … のように主節で倒置。
学習上は、Either the coordinator or two assistants are attending. のように近い複数名詞assistantsへ合わせる形と、Either two assistants or the coordinator is attending. のように近い単数名詞coordinatorへ合わせる形を確認します。文体による揺れや不自然な組み合わせがある場合は、文を二つに分けて意味を明確にするのもよい方法です。

Original Read｜A Reading Club with Two Submission Formats
Paragraph 1
A fictional English reading club welcomed twenty-four students to a series of after-school sessions. Eighteen participants submitted a summary at the end. Each student could submit either a written summary or an audio recording, but nobody was required to submit both. The teacher explained that choosing a format was about accessibility and preference rather than a claim that one format guaranteed higher scores.
Paragraph 2
Aya prepared printed handouts for the sessions, and so did Ken. They also discussed whether learners had understood the passages, but Aya did not measure changes in examination scores, and neither did Ken. Their short questionnaire asked about the clarity of the instructions instead of testing academic achievement.
Paragraph 3
At the final meeting, neither the coordinator nor the assistant was available to lead a follow-up interview, so the teachers postponed it. The two formats remained available for the next trial. The organizers noted that an increase in completed summaries would not by itself prove improvements in students’ exam performance.
