increasingly importantとan increasing number ofを混ぜない
Increasingly は副詞なので increasingly difficult のように形容詞を修飾します。一方 increasing は形容詞として an increasing number of students の number を修飾します。an increasingly number とすると文法上不自然です。
人数が増えても『全員の関心が強まった』とは限らない
参加者が20人から34人へ増えた場合、参加者数の増加は事実です。しかし、その事実だけでは同じ14人が新たに関心を持ったのか、既存の生徒の関心が強くなったのかは分かりません。人数・割合・個人の気持ち・原因は別の指標です。
％とパーセントポイントの計算
20％から25％への変化は25−20＝5パーセントポイント増。相対増加率は(25−20)÷20×100＝25％増です。人数20人から25人も相対25％増ですが、表の分母が違えば意味も変わります。英語の図表読解では基準を必ず確認します。

The organiser said that participants appeared increasingly positive about the lessons. However, the questionnaire did not report how many people answered in each session. The higher mean does not prove that every participant became more satisfied or that the teaching change alone caused the difference.

【架空のディベートクラブ参加者】クラブが数えた参加者は1か月目20人、2か月目25人、3か月目30人、4か月目34人だった。広報紙は参加生徒の間でディベートの人気が「ますます高まっている」と表現した。これらの人数から記録された参加者が増えたことは分かるが、個々の生徒の熱意がどのように変化したかは測定されていない。主催者は期間中に複数の変更も行っており、どの変更が増加を引き起こしたかは、このデータでは分からない。
資料Bの全文和訳
【架空の英作文講座アンケート】1〜5点の尺度で、最初の回の平均満足度は3.2点、最後の回は3.8点だった。主催者は受講者が授業をますます好意的に評価するようになっていると述べた。しかし、各回の回答者数は報告されていなかった。平均値が上がったからといって、全員の満足度が上がったことや、指導方法の変更だけが差の原因であることが証明されたわけではない。

よくある質問
Q. increasinglyはmore and moreと同じですか？
形容詞の程度が強まる意味では近くなります。increasinglyは少し改まった文章でも使われます。名詞の人数増加では、an increasing number ofなど別の形を使います。
Q. increasingly importantは必ず数が増えていますか？
いいえ。重要度の程度の高まりであり、人数や件数が増えたと自動的に断定できません。
Q. an increasing number of students is は正しいですか？
一般にan increasing number of students are … のように複数扱いします。一方、the number of students is … は数そのものが主語で単数扱いです。
Q. 数字が上昇したら政策の効果が証明されますか？
いいえ。比較群、他の条件、測定方法などを確認しなければ原因までは確定できません。長文の筆者が主張していることと、資料が直接示すことを分けます。
