in the event of／thatとin caseの比較

ofの後ろは名詞、thatの後ろは節
in the event of rain では名詞rain、in the event that it rains では主語it＋動詞rainsです。in the event of it rains のように混ぜないでください。Cambridge Dictionaryはin the event ofを「もしそのことが起きた場合」の意味で説明しています。
in caseはトラブルに備えて先に行う意味が多い
Take an extra copy in case the original is lost. は紛失が起きてからコピーを作るのではなく、万一に備えてコピーを持つという意味です。ただしin caseも文脈により条件を示すので、実際の行為が事前か事後かを文全体で確認します。
条件の提示は発生の証拠ではない
「雨なら室内へ移動」とあっても、雨が降ったかどうかは別の記録を読まなければ分かりません。条件（if）・行動の予定（will）・実際の記録（was held）を分けると、True・False・Not Givenの誤答を防げます。
登録数と実際の参加者数も別
30人が登録したという事実だけで、当日30人が参加したと断定できません。バックアップの一覧に30人の名前があっても、それは登録状況の記録です。本文にない出席人数を補わないでください。

Fictional Attendance Backup Notice. Thirty students registered for an optional research session. The organiser kept a digital list of registrations and printed a paper copy containing all thirty names in case the online system became unavailable. The notice stated, “In the event of a network failure, use the printed list to check registrations.” The network operated throughout the session, so the backup was not needed. A student later claimed that the printing itself proved a network failure had occurred. The teacher corrected this: a precaution does not demonstrate that the anticipated problem actually happened. The record described registrations rather than the number of students who attended on the day.

Fictional Outdoor Presentation Arrangement. Twenty-four students registered for an outdoor presentation. The school notice said, “In the event of rain, the event will be moved to Room B.” The organisers checked the weather forecast and prepared the classroom as a contingency. The day remained dry, and the presentation was held outside as planned. The presence of an indoor backup plan did not mean that the outdoor event had been cancelled. The report recorded registrations but did not state exactly how many students attended. It distinguished a conditional instruction, a preparation and the events that actually took place.
