高校1・2年生と先取り学習者向け。学校が採用する版・Stage・学年は異なります。The editor checked the dates, and the assistant did so too.のdid soはchecked the datesという行為を代用します。The task was difficult, but Ken did it.のitは文脈上の課題を指します。Don’t do that again.は直前の行為を指し示して繰り返さないよう述べます。重要なのは英語を機械的に「それをした」と訳さず、代用される動作を具体的に書くことです。
独自英文和訳10問

独自初見長文・全文和訳・読解5問
Original Reading: A school history club prepared a digital guide to buildings that had been used as public libraries. Before publication, Mina checked the dates in the introduction, and Ken did so for the photo captions. The editor wanted to verify an old newspaper quotation as well. She asked the team to locate the original issue, but the local archive was closed that afternoon. Ken suggested that they could do it on Saturday, when the archive would reopen. A student proposed using a quotation from a popular website without checking its source. The editor replied, “Please do not do that. We should not repeat an uncertain statement merely because it is easy to find online.” On Saturday, the students obtained the original newspaper and compared its wording with the website. They discovered that the website had omitted a sentence that changed the meaning of the quotation. The club corrected the caption before publishing it. In the final checklist, Mina wrote that source verification should always be recorded, and the editor agreed to do so in future projects. The team also kept a copy of the revised passage so that later readers could see what had been changed. During a class discussion, several students said that the word “that” in the editor’s warning had initially been unclear to them. When they read the surrounding sentences, they understood that it referred to the plan to copy a quotation without verifying it, not to the act of using newspapers in general.
全文和訳
歴史部は公共図書館として使われた建物の電子案内を準備した。公開前にミナが導入の日付を調べ、ケンも写真説明の日付を確認した。編集長は古新聞の引用も照合したかった。元の号を探すよう依頼したが、その午後は資料室が閉まっていた。ケンは土曜に開くのでその仕事を行えると提案した。ある生徒は出典を確認せず人気サイトの引用を使おうとした。編集長は「それはしないで。ネットで見つけやすいだけで不確かな文を繰り返すべきではない」と答えた。土曜に元の新聞を入手してサイトと比較すると、サイトは引用の意味を変える一文を省いていた。部は公開前に説明文を直した。最終確認表でミナは出典確認を必ず記録すべきと書き、編集長は今後そうすることに同意した。後の読者が変更点を分かるよう改訂文の複製も残した。授業の討論で、編集長の警告にあるthatが初めは不明瞭だったという生徒がいた。しかし前後を読んで、それは新聞を使う行為一般ではなく、確認せず引用をコピーする提案を指すと理解できた。
