Four teams planned a school poster fair about science and local history. Two sessions would be held on Tuesday and two on Thursday. Each team had its own topic, room, duration, and presentation format. The organizers published the schedule so visitors could plan their afternoon without confusing one room or topic with another.

Team Water would present a printed poster in Room 101 at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday for thirty minutes. Team Energy would use a digital poster in Room 102 at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday for forty-five minutes. On Thursday, Team Transport would present a printed poster in Room 102 at 3:00 p.m. for thirty minutes. Team Food would use a digital poster in Room 101 at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday for forty-five minutes.

Yui was available only on Thursday after 3:30 p.m. Ken could attend only on Tuesday and preferred digital presentations. Mei was free on both days but wanted to see a printed poster in Room 102. All digital teams had prepared readable captions. The organizers noted that both rooms were used on both days, so a room number alone would not identify a particular session.

The school library committee collected sixty donated books for a trial sharing shelf. Volunteers examined each book and found forty-eight suitable for reuse. Twelve had missing pages or serious damage. The usable books were organized by subject so students could find them more easily. The committee did not record the names of the students who donated the books.

Of the forty-eight suitable books, eighteen were fiction, twelve were science, ten were travel books, and eight were history books. Students with a signed library card could borrow no more than two books for fourteen days. Aya had signed her card, but Ken had not. The librarian emphasized that one reader could borrow two titles and that the number of borrowing transactions might differ from the number of people.

After two weeks, the borrowing log showed thirty-four loans. Nine books had not yet been returned, but only four of those nine had passed their deadlines. The committee checked due dates before calling any book overdue. It avoided collecting home addresses and planned another trial before deciding whether the shelf should become permanent.

問11. How many books were unsuitable?

20. Why do thirty-four loans not prove that thirty-four different people borrowed books?

A science club studied three watering methods in the same school garden. Group A received tap water, Group B received rainwater, and Group C received a mixture of both. Each group included four pots of the same plant, making twelve pots in total. The class placed them under similar sunlight to reduce the influence of differences unrelated to watering.

Four weeks later, Group A had grown an average of six centimeters, Group B seven centimeters, and Group C six centimeters. These numbers were averages rather than the growth of every individual plant. Group A used twenty liters of tap water, Group C used ten liters, and Group B used no tap water. Rainwater usage was recorded separately.

One student claimed that rainwater was always the best method because Group B had shown the highest average growth. The teacher explained that a short trial in one garden could not prove that the same method would work best everywhere. Other factors might influence growth. The students planned to repeat their experiment with more plants and different weather conditions.

問21. How many pots were used altogether?

The school festival used two buildings. The Science Room was on the second floor of the East Building, and the Music Room was on the third floor of the West Building. A covered walkway connected both buildings at ground level. A printed map showed the walkway and room locations so visitors would not confuse a building name with the floor number.

The East Gate opened at 1:00 p.m., but the West Gate did not open until 2:00 p.m. The East Building had an elevator available from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. The West Building had stairs but no elevator. The science display ran from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m., and the music performance ran from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Visitors were reminded that gate opening times were not necessarily the same as the beginning of an activity.

One visitor wanted to see the science display at 1:30 and needed an elevator. Another was interested only in music and could use the stairs. A third wanted to see both events but could not arrive until 2:45 p.m. The staff explained that visitors should check the opening times, room locations, and their own access requirements before choosing a route.
