I misread the time yesterday. misread A as Bで「AをBと読み違える」と表します。
しかしThe chart was misleading.

A school prepared a small exhibition for visiting families. The original announcement said that the doors would open at 3:00 p.m., but a later official notice changed the opening time to 3:30 p.m. One student misread the updated time as 8:30 p.m. because the print was faint. Another misunderstood a sign reading “Staff Only” on a laboratory door and assumed that the entire school building was closed to visitors. A teacher explained that the restriction applied to that room, not the whole building. Some members said the exhibition had been canceled because several visitors seemed confused. The committee checked the current announcement and confirmed that the exhibition was still scheduled to take place. It printed a clearer notice showing the correct time and the areas that visitors could enter. The group also asked whether people who had seen the old notice had received the correction. That question had not been fully answered. The report distinguished a number that was misread, a rule that was misunderstood and a decision that had never actually been made. No cancellation had been announced.

Read B|
A student committee compared visitor numbers before and after putting new signs near the library. The first count was ninety-two visitors, and the second was ninety-six. A student created a bar chart showing the two numbers. The vertical axis began at ninety rather than zero, making the difference between the bars look much larger than four people. Some classmates interpreted the graph as proof that attendance had almost doubled. The teacher asked them to read the actual numbers: the count had increased by four, from ninety-two to ninety-six. The group agreed that the graph could mislead readers if the axis scale was not explained clearly. However, the report did not establish that the student who drew the chart had intended to deceive anyone. The committee revised the chart, labelled the axis clearly and included the figures in a table. It also checked whether other factors, such as weather or the day of the week, might have affected the visitor numbers. The class could describe the observed increase but could not prove that the new signs had caused it. The final report separated the data, the visual presentation and the interpretation of a possible cause.
Q37. Read B|
