because / although / so that、whose / what / which、where / when、whether / ifの働きを、創作英文2題・全24問で実際の文脈から確認しましょう。
Lesson5:although・because・so thatなど、理由や譲歩・目的の論理関係。
Three classes planned an online exhibition for students at a partner school overseas. The class whose theme was local history prepared photographs of old streets. Another class collected interviews about traditional food, while a third group made short videos about the town’s parks. Although the groups had different topics, they agreed to use one website so that visitors could compare their work easily.
The students first suggested Friday afternoon, which seemed convenient for their own school. However, a teacher explained that the partner school was in another time zone. They needed to decide whether the proposed time would allow students in both countries to participate. The day when they could all meet was Tuesday, not Friday.
Mina designed the page where visitors would enter the online exhibition. She added a clear menu and a section explaining what each group had researched. Her classmate Kota checked the captions beneath the photographs. One caption said that a bridge had been built in 1920, but the original town record gave a different year. They corrected the caption because they did not want visitors to repeat an inaccurate fact.
When the exhibition opened, some guests asked why a few photographs had no people’s names. The students explained that they had obtained permission to show the pictures but not to identify everyone in them. A teacher praised the careful approach. After the event, the groups discussed what they had learned and whether they should add a question-and-answer page for future visitors.

A community group wanted to improve a walking path near a small station. The path was used by students, older residents, and people who visited a nearby clinic. Some residents said the route was too narrow, while others were mainly worried about poor lighting in the evening. The group agreed that it should not choose a solution before understanding what people actually needed.
First, the group asked residents whether they usually walked to the station or used a bicycle. Of the sixty people who answered, thirty-six said they walked, eighteen said they cycled, and six said they usually used another route. The survey did not ask for names. It also asked which part of the path felt least safe and why respondents thought so.
The area where most walkers felt uncomfortable was a bend beside a high wall. This was the place at which cyclists and walkers sometimes had difficulty seeing one another. One member whose job involved designing signs suggested adding a mirror. Another member preferred improving the lighting. Although both ideas sounded reasonable, the group knew that a short survey could not prove which would be most effective.
They decided to ask the local authority whether a small trial would be possible. The proposal described the problem, summarized the survey, and offered two alternatives. It was important that residents who had different opinions could understand the report. The group therefore used plain language and included a simple drawing rather than a complicated technical map.
The group did not claim that the project would prevent every accident. Instead, it proposed measuring how often walkers and cyclists had to stop suddenly before and after any change. The members believed that a useful decision required evidence, a fair comparison, and a willingness to revise the plan.

例えば『the class whose theme was local history』ならwhoseがthe classとthemeの所有関係を示すこと、『decide whether the proposed time …』
FAQ
