NEW TREASURE Stage3の英作文でexplain me the rule、discuss about the plan、say me the answerと書いていませんか。 基本の語法はexplain A to B（BにAを説明する）、tell B A（BにAを伝える）、say A to B（BにAを言う）、discuss A（Aを議論する）です。慶英会の独自40問・全解答・誤文訂正・初見英文2題で、人・内容・前置詞の位置を練習します。

結論｜同じ「話す・伝える」でも目的語が異なる

explain meが不自然な理由｜explain the rule to me
Explain this rule to me. ではruleが説明される内容、meが受け手です。tellならTell me the rule. のように「人＋内容」の二重目的語が使えます。explain me the rule のようにexplainをtellと同じ並びにしないことが重要です。
say meも避ける｜say to meかtell me
She said to me that the meeting was canceled. と She told me that the meeting was canceled. は意味が近いですが、sayは人を直接目的語にしません。指示ではtold us to wait が基本です。発言内容と指示を区別して選んでください。
discuss aboutは標準的な誤答｜talk aboutとの違い
We discussed the timetable. はdiscuss＋話題です。一方 We talked about the timetable. はtalk＋about＋話題になります。議論相手を加えるなら discuss the timetable with the teacher が自然です。
tellの例外｜tell the truth・tell a story・tell a joke
tellは通常、誰かに情報を伝えるとき人の目的語をとりますが、tell the truth／tell a story／tell a joke などの慣用句では受け手を明示しなくても自然です。「tellの直後には必ず人」と丸暗記しないでください。
説明・議論・採用は別の事実
The council discussed the plan. とあれば「議論した」ことは分かりますが、「採用された」とは限りません。She explained the proposal to the members. も説明した事実だけです。Stage3のProject議事録・Readでは、説明・提案・最終決定を混同しないようにします。
演習の学習順序｜独自40問
- Q1〜12：動詞と受け手・内容の語順を選ぶ。
- Q13〜22：explain me／say me／discuss aboutなどの誤文を訂正する。
- Q23〜32：学校発表の和文英訳と同義書き換えを練習。
- Q33〜40：独自英文2題で「説明したこと」「議論したこと」「決定済みか」を確かめる。
- 解答を開く前に「内容A」「受け手B」「話し合う相手」の3点を下線で特定する。
A｜explain・tell・say・discussの語順を選ぶ12問
誰に何を伝えたのかを確認し、相手が直接目的語になる動詞と前置詞を取る動詞を分けてください。

独自英文A｜学校展示のルール説明と議論
At the school exhibition, a teacher explained the new entry rules to the visitors. She told the students to wait near the entrance until the room was ready. Later, the student council discussed a revision to the building map with the teacher. The chair said that a clearer map might help, but the minutes did not say that the revision was approved. The group recorded the explanation and discussion separately from any final decision.
独自英文B｜科学部の実験発表と提案
A science team presented its project. The leader explained how the measurements had been collected and showed a table with one unusual value. The students discussed possible reasons for that value. An adviser told them to check it in an independent test before making a strong claim. The report said that the advice was accepted as a plan, but it contained no record of a completed second test or confirmed cause.

独自英文2題の全文和訳
A：学校の展示では、先生が来場者に新しい入室規則を説明しました。生徒には会場の準備ができるまで入口付近で待つよう指示しました。その後、生徒会は建物の地図の改訂について先生と議論しました。議長は見やすい地図が役立つかもしれないと述べましたが、議事録には改訂が承認されたとは記載されていません。
B：理科チームは企画を発表しました。代表者は測定方法を説明し、一つの異常値が含まれた表を示しました。生徒たちは異常値の原因候補を議論し、助言者は強い主張をする前に独立した試験でもう一度確かめるよう言いました。報告書には助言が計画として受け入れられたとありますが、2回目の試験完了や原因の確認記録はありません。

標準的にはexplain the rule to meです。explainの内容が直接目的語で、受け手には前置詞toを使います。
Q. discuss about the planは正しいですか？
通常の学校英語ではdiscuss the planです。talk about the planと混同しないようにしてください。
Q. sayとtellは完全に同じですか？
同じではありません。say the words to me、tell me the newsのように語順が異なります。
Q. tellの後ろは必ず人ですか？
通常は情報の受け手を示しますが、tell the truth、tell a joke、tell a storyなどの慣用表現があります。
