1|The Note Between the Shelves(学校・図書室のミステリー・Q1〜Q8)

Paragraph 1. During the summer break, Mika volunteered at the school library. She found a note inside a returned book. The note said, ‘The final meeting is on Friday. Please tell everyone before the doors close.’ Mika believed that a reading group would disappear, and she worried about the students who attended it every week. She began writing a message to the class group chat.

Paragraph 2. Her friend Ryo asked her to check the date. The note had been written three years earlier. It did not name the reading group, and the library now had different opening hours. Instead of sharing the message, they asked the librarian about it. The librarian explained that the Friday meeting had been the last meeting in the old room. The group had moved to a brighter room upstairs the following week.

Paragraph 3. Mika was relieved, but she also felt embarrassed. She had been ready to warn everyone without knowing which meeting the note described. She and Ryo wrote a short announcement explaining where the reading group currently met, and the librarian checked it before publication. Mika kept a photograph of the old note as a reminder that a dramatic sentence was not necessarily the whole story.

Paragraph 4. When classes began again, she told her classmates what she had learned. She did not say that people should never share useful information. She said that useful information becomes more trustworthy when someone checks its date, source and meaning first.

The Note Between the Shelves is a short mystery about Mika, a student helping in her school library. She finds a note about a final meeting and thinks a reading group has ended. Her friend Ryo checks the date and discovers that the group only moved rooms. I enjoyed the moment when Mika realizes that a dramatic sentence can be misleading. The story is simple, but its message feels useful because school information can change quickly. I would recommend it to readers who like everyday mysteries and stories about making responsible decisions.

2|The Bridge on the Old Map(地域の探検・調査物語・Q9〜Q16)

Paragraph 1. Ken was preparing a walking tour for a school exchange. He had found an old map at a local information center and wanted to follow the route beside the river. His first plan crossed a narrow bridge drawn on the map. He believed it would be a perfect place to compare the old town with the present one.

Paragraph 2. On the morning of the trial, he saw a notice saying that the bridge had been replaced years earlier and that the nearby path was temporarily closed for repairs. Ken was disappointed. He had already written a beautiful introduction describing the original route. His classmate Aoi suggested keeping the history but changing the actual walk. They checked the current public route and selected three places that visitors could view safely.

Paragraph 3. The new tour was shorter. Aoi worried that it might feel less exciting, but Ken realized that the map could show both the past and the present without pretending the old bridge still existed. He added a sentence explaining the difference between a historical source and a current direction. Two classmates tested the revised route successfully, although Ken did not claim that every future visitor would find it easy.

Paragraph 4. At the exchange event, Ken showed the old map beside the new route. The visiting students asked questions about how the area had changed. He finally understood that changing his plan had not destroyed the story. The change itself had become the most interesting part.

  1. Q9. Ken

A narrow bridge on an old map.

The old bridge had been replaced and a nearby path was closed.

  3. Q11. Aoi

Keep the history but use a current safe route.

Three.

No. Only two classmates tested the revised route.

Strength: It connects history with real decisions. Limitation: The visitor test is very small.

I found Ken’s change of plan more interesting than the original walk. The old map created a mystery, but the current notice changed what was possible. Aoi’s suggestion showed that a good guide needs both historical curiosity and practical accuracy.

The Bridge on the Old Map tells the story of Ken, who prepares a walking tour with a historical map. When he learns that part of the route is closed, he must change his plan. I especially liked Aoi’s suggestion to keep the historical information while choosing a safer path. This choice makes the story realistic and shows how research can improve a project. The ending is quiet rather than dramatic, but I found it satisfying because Ken learns something new. I recommend this story to readers who enjoy local history and thoughtful problem-solving.

独自短編3|The Clock Without Hands(文化祭・象徴表現・Q17〜Q24)

Paragraph 1. For the autumn festival, the art club displayed an unusual wooden clock. It had a round face and twelve marks but no hands. The artist, Yuna, placed a short card beside it: ‘Some moments cannot be measured.’ Visitors stopped to look, but many asked whether the clock was broken.

Paragraph 2. Yuna’s classmate Sora suggested adding a longer explanation. Yuna hesitated because she wanted visitors to form their own interpretations. They agreed to write two sentences about the materials and the artistic idea without telling readers exactly what they should feel. The revised card explained that the clock was intentionally made without hands and invited visitors to consider a memorable moment in their own lives.

Paragraph 3. During the festival, one visitor said the clock represented waiting. Another thought it was about moments spent with friends. Yuna listened with interest but did not say that either visitor had discovered her single hidden answer. A third visitor asked whether it was meant to criticize people who arrived late. Yuna replied that this was a possible reading, although it had not been her main idea.

Paragraph 4. After the festival, Sora asked whether the longer card had made everyone understand the work better. Yuna said they could not know. They had collected comments, not a test of comprehension. Nevertheless, she felt that clearer information and room for interpretation could exist together.

Clock hands.

Some moments cannot be measured.

  3. Q19. Sora

A longer explanation.

  4. Q20. Yuna

She wanted viewers to form their own interpretations.

Waiting and time with friends.

No. She said it was possible but not her main idea.

They gathered comments but did not test comprehension.

I liked the unusual clock because it made visitors think rather than simply read instructions. The different interpretations were especially interesting. However, the story also shows why a short explanation can help people understand an artwork without controlling every response.

The Clock Without Hands is a story about a student artist who creates a clock that cannot show the time. Visitors give the artwork different meanings, and Yuna learns to listen without insisting on a single correct answer. I enjoyed the contrast between the clear facts about the clock and the personal feelings it inspired. The story made me think about how art can invite conversation. Some readers may prefer a stronger ending, but I liked its open conclusion. I recommend it to students interested in art, symbols and communication.

独自短編4|The Last Seed Packet(学校菜園・意思決定・Q25〜Q32)

Paragraph 1. A school garden club found one old packet of vegetable seeds in a drawer. The label showed a planting date from several years earlier, but nobody knew whether the seeds would still grow. Two members wanted to plant the entire packet immediately. Their friend Leo suggested trying a small number first and keeping some for a later test.

Paragraph 2. The club checked general gardening information, then placed ten seeds into two identical containers. They recorded how much water each container received and where it was kept. After a week, six seeds had begun to grow. One student announced that sixty percent of all the seeds in the packet were healthy. Leo disagreed. Only ten seeds had been tested, and the packet contained more than ten.

Paragraph 3. The students prepared a display about their trial. It said that six out of ten tested seeds had grown under their conditions. They did not claim that every remaining seed would behave in the same way. The teacher praised the careful wording and asked them to explain the difference between an observed result and a prediction.

Paragraph 4. When the club finally decided what to do with the rest of the packet, it created a second trial instead of making a promise about the outcome. Leo was pleased. He believed that respecting the limits of a result could make a small experiment more interesting, not less.

An old packet of vegetable seeds.

  2. Q26. Leo

Test a small number before using the whole packet.

Ten.

Six.

Sixty percent.

No. Only ten seeds were tested.

  7. Q31. Leo

Being careful about what evidence can support.

I liked Leo because he asked the group to test their idea before making a promise. The number six out of ten was useful but did not prove what would happen to every seed. The story explains scientific caution through simple actions.

The Last Seed Packet follows a garden club that discovers old seeds and wants to know whether they will grow. Leo suggests a small test instead of using everything at once. I liked his careful approach because the group learns to distinguish a result from a prediction. Six of ten seeds grow, but the characters do not claim that the whole packet has the same success rate. The story is easy to follow, although I wanted to know the outcome of the second test. I recommend it to readers who enjoy science and practical mysteries.
