- Writing:
I think the school should …
Passage 1|Earlier Library Hours(約157語)
At a fictional middle school, the student council proposed opening the library thirty minutes earlier. Students who arrived before classes wanted a quiet place to read or review their notes. The school agreed to try the plan for three weeks, and a teacher supervised the room during the extra period. Several students said they appreciated having more time for reading.
However, the plan also required staff members to adjust their morning duties. On some days, there were only a few students in the library. The council wanted to decide whether the new schedule should continue, but it had not measured any change in examination scores or in students’ reading ability.
The teacher suggested comparing daily attendance records and asking volunteers for feedback before making a decision. She also reminded students that a few positive comments could not represent every student. The group prepared a report describing the purpose, the additional staffing needed, and the information still missing.
- Q1. What change did the school test?
- Q2. What was the main intended benefit?
- Q3. How long was the trial?
- Q4. What was one challenge?
- Q5. Did the school measure higher examination scores?
- Q6. Choose the accurate statement: (A) Every student preferred the new hours. (B) Several students welcomed the trial.
- Q7. What is unnecessary in a short summary: the exact trial length or the staffing challenge?
- Q8. Write a 25–35-word English summary.
Passage 2|Sharing Spare School Notebooks(約166語)
At a fictional school, students noticed that some usable notebooks were left after class projects, while other students needed paper for new activities. The student council proposed a sharing shelf where students could leave unused notebooks. Teachers checked the items for private information before allowing them to be shared. Students could take a notebook if they needed one.
Some participants said that finding spare notebooks helped them avoid buying new ones for particular tasks. The project encouraged students to think about reusing school materials instead of throwing them away. However, the shelf needed a safe storage area, and volunteers had to check that all items were clean and appropriate to share.
The council kept a simple count of notebooks placed on the shelf but did not calculate the project’s total environmental impact. It also did not ask students to reveal private financial information. The teacher suggested reporting the observed use of the shelf, the benefits described by participants, and the practical work required to maintain it.
- Q9. What did students create?
- Q10. Why did teachers check the items?
- Q11. What benefit did some participants describe?
- Q12. What practical resources were necessary?
- Q13. Did the council calculate environmental impact?
- Q14. Choose a supported claim: (A) All students saved money. (B) Some students used spare notebooks.
- Q15. Which detail is less central to a short summary: private financial questions or storage and safety checks?
- Q16. Write a 25–35-word English summary.
Passage 3|Clearer Bus Signs Near a Station(約160語)
A fictional town wanted visitors to find local buses more easily. People sometimes confused two stops with similar names, so the town placed new signs near its railway station. The signs used larger lettering and simple maps. Staff members asked a small group of volunteers to follow the directions and report any parts they found unclear.
Several volunteers said the new signs were easier to understand than the old ones. The town corrected a street name that appeared on one draft. The improved signs could help visitors choose a stop, but the trial had been limited to a small group and a short period.
The town had not measured whether the signs reduced travel time or increased bus use. Organizers also needed to update the signs when transport routes changed. In its final report, the town described the changes made, the feedback received, and the need for future checks rather than promising that every passenger would reach a destination faster.
- Q17. What problem did the town try to solve?
- Q18. What did the new signs use?
- Q19. Who tested the directions?
- Q20. What did some volunteers report?
- Q21. What wrong item did the town correct?
- Q22. Did the town measure bus ridership or travel time?
- Q23. What maintenance problem did the project face?
- Q24. Write a 25–35-word English summary.
Passage 4|A Small Online Study Group(約154語)
Some students at a fictional school lived far from the campus. They wanted more opportunities to practise English together without making another trip after classes. With a teacher’s permission, they started an online study group that met for twenty minutes twice a week. Members took turns reading short passages and discussing the meaning of new words.
Several students liked being able to join from home. The shorter meetings were convenient for those with long journeys, and the teacher could suggest which parts of the reading needed attention. However, unstable internet connections sometimes interrupted discussions, and the number of participants changed from week to week.
The group kept attendance records but did not compare examination scores before and after the project. It also avoided recording private conversations without permission. The teacher said the club was a useful opportunity for practice, but a report should not claim it had improved everyone’s English ability without reliable measurement.
- Q25. Why did the group meet online?
- Q26. How long was each meeting?
- Q27. How often did it meet?
- Q28. What did participants do in meetings?
- Q29. What was one convenience of online meetings?
- Q30. What technical problem did they face?
- Q31. Did the group measure improved exam scores?
- Q32. Write a 25–35-word English summary.
