The reading club usually met on the second Tuesday of each month. This month, the library was reserved for an exam on that day. The club leader, Yuki, decided to postpone the next meeting until Thursday. She sent a message saying that the meeting was delayed, not canceled. The meeting would still begin at four and would last for forty minutes. All other monthly meetings would follow the usual schedule. Some students asked whether they needed to register again, but Yuki explained that their existing registrations were still valid. She also reminded members to bring the books they had borrowed. The teacher said the change affected only the next meeting.

短文2|図書室の音声ガイド|オリジナル英文
The library prepared a short audio guide for students who wanted help with English pronunciation. Using the recording was optional; students were not required to listen to it. They could also read a printed guide, which contained the same important instructions. Ms. Tanaka encouraged new members to try the audio if they found some words difficult to pronounce. The recording became available on Friday after the teacher checked its sound quality. It did not contain the entire text of the books in the library. Instead, it explained how to use the borrowing system and where to ask questions. The library planned to ask students for feedback after one month.

The student council discussed whether the school should encourage reusable water bottles. Mika proposed putting more drinking-water stations near classrooms. She said that students might refill their bottles more often if water was easy to find. Ren supported the idea but pointed out that installing stations would cost money. He wanted the council to examine the cost before choosing a plan. Aya suggested trying one station for a month and asking students whether they used it. 短文4|学校展示の説明文|オリジナル英文
Ryo and Emi prepared English captions for a history display. Their first captions used long, difficult sentences, so the teacher asked them to make the language simpler. Ryo shortened some sentences without removing important facts. Emi replaced uncommon words with more familiar ones. They also checked that every date and place matched the original notes. After the changes, a group of younger students read the captions. Most of them could explain the main ideas, but two asked for the meaning of one word. The team revised that word again. The teacher explained that making text easier did not mean changing the facts. The students printed the final captions only after checking the meaning a second time.
問題19〜24
- What did the teacher ask Ryo and Emi to do?
- How did Ryo change the captions?
- What does ‘uncommon words’ mean here?
- What information did they verify against the notes?
- Did every younger student understand every word immediately?
- What does ‘making text easier did not mean changing the facts’ imply?
