文章のまとまりを判断する4つの観点

• 話題：各文が同じ目的・対象について述べているか。
• 情報の流れ：問題提起→方法→結果／提案の順に進んでいるか。
• 接続と指示語：but、therefore、this、theyなどが前の文と対応しているか。
• 無関係な情報：文法的には正しくても、全体の主題から外れている文がないか。

学習上の注意：設問はA〜Dの4英文から、段落の中心テーマにもっとも関係しない一文を一つ選ぶ形式です。単に難しい単語が入っている文を選んではいけません。正答後、不要な文を除いた3文をもう一度音読し、段落の主題を英語か日本語で1文にまとめてください。各問1点、32点満点は慶英会独自の学習用目安です。

なぜ不要文を見抜けないのか

• 単語だけで判断する：school、studentsなどが共通でも、何を説明する段落かは一致しない場合があります。
• 接続を読まない：First・Then・Finallyは手順の順序、Howeverは対比、Becauseは理由を示すことが多い。
• 細部を主題にする：調査の数字や場所は全体の目的を支える情報で、必ずしも主題そのものではない。
• 知らない単語に引きずられる：知らない語の有無と、文章のつながりの有無は別の問題。

7日間で段落理解を鍛える

1日目にQ1〜8、2日目にQ9〜16、3日目にQ17〜24、4日目にQ25〜32を解きます。5日目には間違えた問題についてA〜Dの関係を説明し、6日目に残り3文を日本語1文に要約。7日目には解答を隠して32問をやり直し、同じ理由で不要文を選べるか確かめてください。問題の丸暗記ではなく、初めて読む説明文で根拠を見つけることが目的です。

よくある質問

不要文は英単語が難しい文ですか？

違います。簡単な英文でも段落の話題から外れていれば不要文です。単語の難易度だけで正解を決めないでください。

どの文が段落の主題か分からない場合は？

最初と最後の文を手掛かりに、誰が何のために行い、結果がどうなったかを一文で表してみてください。ただし主題がいつも冒頭にあるとは限りません。
