by Friday(期限)とon Saturday(開催日)の違いや、may/must/do not have toの意味も正確に読み分けます。

  • Event date:
  • Registration deadline:
  • Required:must/need to/should bring(このうちshouldは通常助言)などの強さを区別する。
  • Not allowed:
  • Not stated:

must・may・don’t have toの3つの違い

Volunteers must register. は義務、Students may choose one group. Students do not have to bring scissors.

How many seats are available? Zero.

9:30 a.m. doors open/check-in/the event beginsなどの語も区別してください。

Notice 1|Library Notice|

MAPLE SCHOOL LIBRARY — FICTIONAL PRACTICE NOTICE. The library is open Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. On Tuesdays, the small reading room is reserved from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. for a supervised student group. The main library remains open during that hour. Students may still return books at the regular counter.

A short English reading workshop will take place on Thursday from 3:15 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Participation is optional, but students who want to join must register at the school office by noon on Wednesday. Registration does not require payment. Please bring a notebook; dictionaries will be provided. Students should not bring food into the reading room.

Library books should normally be returned before the counter closes at 4:30 p.m. A book that is due on Thursday may be returned on an earlier day. Please do not assume that the optional workshop changes the return deadline. This announcement does not describe rules for borrowing books over school holidays. Ask a librarian if you need those details.

  • Q1. On which days is the library open?
  • Q2. When is the small reading room reserved on Tuesday?
  • Q3. Is the main library closed during the Tuesday reservation?
  • Q4. What day is the English reading workshop?
  • Q5. What is the workshop registration deadline?
  • Q6. Is the workshop compulsory or optional?
  • Q7. What should participants bring?
  • Q8. Does the notice give special borrowing rules for holidays?

Notice 2|Science Exhibition Poster|

MAPLE SCHOOL SCIENCE EXHIBITION — FICTIONAL PRACTICE POSTER. The exhibition will be held on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The event is free and takes place in the school hall. Doors open to visitors at 9:55 a.m. Volunteers must check in with their supervising teacher at 9:30 a.m., before visitors arrive.

Volunteer places are open to first- and second-year junior high school students at this fictional school. Students who want to volunteer must register by Friday at 4:00 p.m. with a teacher. Participants may volunteer for one or more approved tasks. The school will supply signs, paper, markers and other approved materials. Volunteers do not need to bring scissors.

Visitors must follow staff instructions and may not touch electrical equipment. Photographs of identifiable students require school permission. A teacher will explain where photos may be taken. The poster does not say how many visitors will attend or promise that the exhibition will improve test scores. It gives practical event information, not a research result.

  • Q9. What day and time is the exhibition open to visitors?
  • Q10. When do the doors open to visitors?
  • Q11. What time must volunteers check in?
  • Q12. Who may volunteer?
  • Q13. What is the registration deadline for volunteers?
  • Q14. Do volunteers need to bring scissors?
  • Q15. Can visitors freely touch electrical equipment?
  • Q16. How many visitors are expected?

Notice 3|Lost and Found Notice|

MAPLE SCHOOL LOST AND FOUND — FICTIONAL PRACTICE NOTICE. A blue jacket was found in the school gym on Thursday after lunch. A teacher brought the jacket to the school office. A small name label was attached inside, but the office will not display the name publicly. Students must not post pictures of the label online.

To ask about the jacket, students should visit the office between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on a school day. The owner should describe the item and show the student identification card used by this fictional school. A friend may accompany the owner, but the jacket will not be released to someone who cannot follow the identification process.

Another item, a red water bottle, was reported missing on Wednesday. The office has not confirmed finding it. The notice describes the jacket as found, but the bottle as missing. Students should not assume that two items have the same status. The office does not state how long found items will be stored; anyone needing that information should ask staff directly.

  • Q17. What item was found?
  • Q18. Where was the item found?
  • Q19. Where is the jacket now?
  • Q20. Why is the name on the label not displayed?
  • Q21. What are the office’s listed contact hours?
  • Q22. What identification is required to claim the jacket?
  • Q23. Was the red water bottle confirmed found?
  • Q24. For how long will found items be stored?

Notice 4|English Club Choices|

MAPLE SCHOOL ENGLISH CLUB — FICTIONAL PRACTICE ANNOUNCEMENT. The English club is opening two small reading-and-speaking groups. Group A meets on Wednesdays from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Group B meets on Fridays from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Both groups practise with short original English texts and a teacher-supervised discussion. Students may choose one group, not both.

Registration for the next series must be completed before Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. at the school office. Submitting a request does not guarantee a place because each group has a limited number of seats. The school will tell each applicant whether a place is available. Group A begins on the Wednesday after registration closes. Group B begins on the following Friday.

The school provides the approved reading materials, so students do not need to buy a workbook for this activity. Participants should bring a notebook and follow any teacher guidance about recording voices or taking pictures. The announcement does not state the number of places available in each group or give an attendance percentage requirement. Students should ask the supervisor instead of guessing.

  • Q25. When does Group A meet?
  • Q26. When does Group B meet?
  • Q27. May a student join both groups?
  • Q28. What is the registration deadline?
  • Q29. Does submitting a request guarantee a place?
  • Q30. When does Group A begin?
  • Q31. Must participants buy a workbook?
  • Q32. How many available seats does each group have?
