結論:NEW TREASURE(ニュートレジャー)Stage 2のRead・Actionでnot all/none、not both/neither、not always/neverを混同すると、本文の事実を逆に読んでしまいます。Not all students passed. None of the students passed. Not both rooms are available. とNeither room is available.

Not all eight students submitted. None of the students submitted.
not bothはneitherほど強くない
Not both rooms are available.
not necessarilyとneverの違い
More homework does not necessarily improve grades. More homework never improves grades.
All the students did not agree. 学校英作文ではNot all students agreed. と None of the students agreed.

At a fictional junior high school, the student council surveyed twelve volunteers about a new reading corner. Nine said it was useful, two said it was not useful, and one was unsure. Hana wrote that all students liked the idea. Ken corrected this: not all respondents liked it, and the twelve volunteers did not represent the whole school.
The group also checked two possible rooms. Room A was available on Thursday, while Room B was closed. A student wrote that neither room was available. The teacher explained that this was false: one of the rooms was open. They wrote that not both rooms were available, without suggesting that both were closed.
In a practice report, a student claimed that a reading corner would always improve grades. The council had not measured grades or reading outcomes. Yui revised the sentence to say that such a place may help some students find quiet reading time, while the effects on learning would require a separate study.
The team learned to describe exactly what was counted. A result from twelve volunteers cannot automatically become a statement about every student. Its final report named the sample size, recorded the responses, and identified what remained unknown.
- Q33. How many volunteers answered the survey?
- Q34. How many respondents answered positively?
- Q35. Why was ‘all students liked it’ inaccurate?
- Q36. Which room was available on Thursday?
- Q37. Why was ‘neither room’ wrong?
- Q38. Why was ‘not both rooms’ correct?
- Q39. Did the council measure improvements in grades?
- Q40. How did Yui revise the unsupported claim?
