結論｜need to do・need人to do・need doing
- need to＋原形：We need to check the names.（私たちが確認する必要がある）。
- need＋人＋to原形：We need Mika to help us.（ミカに手伝ってもらう必要がある）。
- need＋名詞：We need six chairs.（椅子が6脚必要）。
- don’t need to＋原形：You don’t need to print it.（印刷する必要はない）。禁止ではない。
- needn’t＋原形：You needn’t bring a pen.（持参する必要はない）。助動詞的な用法。
- need＋-ing：The door needs painting.（ドアは塗装が必要）。英国式でよく使う受け身の意味。
- need to be＋過去分詞：The door needs to be painted.（同じく塗装が必要）。
『必要だとされたこと』『依頼したこと』と『完了したこと』は別です。またdon’t need toは義務がない意味で、mustn’tのような禁止とは異なります。need repairingとneed to be repairedの言い換えは発展事項として学習してください。

独自英文：The reading club at Cherrywood School planned a presentation for Friday. On Monday, the teacher said that the members needed to check all book titles before printing the posters. The group needed Mika to prepare the guest list and Ken to test the projector. By Tuesday, Mika had finished the list, but Ken had not tested the projector. The posters also needed to be checked because one title had been written incorrectly. The teacher explained that students did not need to bring pens to the presentation, because pens would be provided at reception. They were allowed to bring their own pens, however. On Wednesday, Ken tested the projector and found that its cable needed replacing. The school office supplied a new cable on Thursday, and the projector worked again. 英文の全文和訳

- need repairを受け身の意味で書くならneeds repairing／needs to be repaired。

よくある質問
need doingは能動態ですか？
形は-ingですが『その物が作業を受ける必要がある』という受け身の意味です。need to be doneに言い換えられます。
needn’tとdon’t need toは同じ意味ですか？
義務がないという意味で重なりますが、needn’tは助動詞的な用法で、後ろにtoを付けません。
don’t need toとmustn’tは同じですか？
いいえ。前者は必要がない、後者は禁止です。
