結論｜explain・describe・tell・introduceの違い
- explain＋内容＋to＋人：Please explain the rule to me.（ルールを私に説明して）。explain me the ruleは不可。
- describe＋物／人の様子＋to＋人：Describe the building to me.（建物の様子を説明）。原因ではなく特徴・外見に焦点。
- tell＋人＋内容：Tell me the answer.（答えを教えて）。tell someone to doで行動を指示できる。
- introduce A to B：Introduce the new student to the class.（新入生をクラスに紹介）。人を引き合わせることも、新しい物や計画を紹介することもある。
Cambridge Dictionaryの文法解説でも、explain me the routeのような二重目的語の形は避け、explain the route to meとすることが明示されています。説明しただけで理解されたとは限らず、紹介しただけで計画が正式採用されたとも限りません。Readでは動詞が示す行動と結果を切り離してください。

初見Read｜学校の庭の紹介・描写・理由説明（問33〜40）
独自英文：At Alder Junior High, the science club prepared a visitor day. On Monday, its leader told the members that a new student, Emi, would join the club. The leader introduced Emi to the other members before the planning meeting. Emi had never visited the school garden, so Yuki described its layout to her: there was a small pond beside the path and three trees behind it. Ken then explained why the garden needed a new sign. Visitors sometimes walked toward a closed gate because the old sign was hard to read. The teacher asked the students to prepare an information board. On Wednesday, Yuki told the teacher that the board was ready. The teacher checked its wording and suggested one change. The members corrected the board on Thursday. The visitor day was scheduled for Friday, but nobody had attended it yet. The club’s report separated four actions: introducing Emi, describing the garden, explaining the problem and telling the teacher about the prepared board.

初見英文の全文和訳
アルダー中学校の科学部は来訪者向けの行事を準備しました。月曜日、部長は新しい生徒エミが入部すると部員に伝えました。会議の前に部長はエミをほかの部員に紹介しました。エミは学校の庭を訪れたことがなかったので、ユキは庭の配置を描写しました。小道の横には池があり、その後ろに木が3本ありました。次にケンは新しい案内表示が必要な理由を説明しました。古い表示が読みにくく、来訪者が閉鎖中の門へ向かうことがあったからです。教師は生徒に案内板を用意するよう頼みました。水曜にはユキが準備完了を教師に伝え、教師は文言を確認して修正を一つ提案しました。木曜に修正しました。来訪者向け行事は金曜の予定でしたが、その時点ではまだ行われていませんでした。部の報告書はエミの紹介、庭の描写、問題の説明、案内板の報告を別々の行動として記録しました。
誤答の直し方と7日間の復習
- explain me …を使ったらexplain … to meに直す。
- describeで『なぜ』の原因を書いていたらexplain whyの形を検討する。
- tell me to／tell me thatの形を取り違えたら相手への指示か情報伝達かを確認。
- introduce me the studentと書いたらintroduce the student to meにする。
- 実際のReadで人の紹介・庭の描写・問題の説明・情報の報告を別の行動として整理する。
1日目から4日目は各8問、5日目は初見Read8問、6日目は自分の学校生活を題材に4動詞を各1文ずつ、7日目は誤答を白紙で再テストしてください。学校で指定語句・語数がある場合はその条件を優先し、自然な別解は意味が一致するかで判定します。
よくある質問
explain me the problemは正しいですか？
通常は誤りです。explain the problem to meとします。tell me the problemは別の構文として使えます。
describeとexplainは同じですか？
重なる文脈もありますが、describeは見た目や特徴の描写、explainは理由や仕組みの理解を助ける説明が中心です。
tell me whyの後ろは疑問文語順ですか？
いいえ。tell me why the rule changedのように、間接疑問の中は通常の主語＋動詞の順番です。
introduceとtell aboutは同じですか？
introduceは人を引き合わせたり物を初めて紹介したりすること、tell someone aboutは話題について情報を伝えることです。
先生が説明したら全員が理解したという意味ですか？
いいえ。説明を行ったという事実であり、聞いた全員の理解・行動は別途確認が必要です。
